Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Gates
Sydney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got my start in music at 3 years old in my home church. I started writing music when I was 8. I released my first project when I got to high school. Before that, I just did covers. I didn’t get into the film aspect of things until I was in the 6th grade. I began to write short stories on Wattpad. Over time I realized just how passionate I was about storytelling. It began to show through my music and my stories.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never easy being a part of the entertainment industry. I used to be more reserved and afraid to talk to people. I had to learn to speak up. If you don’t network, you won’t meet people who will place you exactly where you want to be. Being in this field taught me the importance of making your presence known and introducing yourself to as many people as possible. Your face is your brand!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an artist. My specialties include music and screenwriting. I’m most proud of the progress I have been able to make on my own. The lord has blessed me with the gift of the gab that continues to place me in rooms that I have only dreamed about. I have been able to get my scripts in some of the most blessed hands. I’m a very determined person. When I have a goal, I keep pushing until I get there because nobody is gonna do it for me.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My art makes me happy. To listen to my music and read my scripts is like stepping outside of my brain and truly living in it. I have an imagination that brings me peace and relaxation. When I’m unable to write or sing, my spark tends to diminish a bit. I enjoy the limitless possibilities that come with being a creative mind.
