Today we’d like to introduce you to T.K. Aart. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Village Skatepark ATL began when T.K.’s passion for Action Sports and Creative Development crossed paths. We like to call it divine alignment because he was donated an abandoned warehouse and asked if he could put a skatepark there! T.K. jumped on the opportunity, he always had a vision for creating something community-based for the Action Sports world. Excitement surrounding Village grew quickly! In no time, we were receiving an abundance of help from supporters who believed in our cause. Village Skatepark ATL first opened its doors June 2, 2022, and has brought over 10,000 members of the community together through programming, events, community outreach, and riding! The future of Actions Sports is BRIGHT at our indoor skatepark and recreation center, and we vow to always protect, nurture, and grow Action Sports.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Updating the building was and still can be a challenge. T.K. is our Director of Operations so he handles most of the maintenance himself! We are so grateful to those who have donated their time, skills, or resources to our space – we wouldn’t be anything without our Villagers!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
T.K. is a BMX professional, painter, master carpenter, educator, AND MORE! He found very early on that he was multitalented and could learn to do just about anything! He began riding BMX when he was 13 and shortly after discovered drawing and painting. T.K. improved his skills throughout adolescence and used them to support himself in early adulthood. Today, he directs his energy towards curating events at Village Skatepark ATL, creating and selling art, riding his bike, and teaching technical skills to Atlanta youth.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
At the very beginning of Village most people told him it was an impossible task. T.K. knew he had a lot of work to do, but never let his vision fade.T.K. Aart is THE risk taker! He believes in the power of curiosity, and is always seeking something new, exciting, or unknown no matter the risk!
