Hi Tammi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Hello, my name is Tammi. I currently live in Douglasville, GA. I am married with a 15 year old son.
My journey into the natural skincare world started when I was working as a vendor for an event and met another vendor who sold body butter. I had purchased body butter before so I knew the effects that it had on my skin. I purchased the only two small jars that she had that day, but when I ran out she had no website for me to purchase more. My husband said to me that I should just make some myself. With a “you have got to be kidding me” look on my face I decided to research different ingredients and the benefits for the skin of each.
Since I have had cystic acne since my early teen years, a very oily face, and the rest of my body was very dry, I needed ingredients that would help with all of my problem areas. My research turned into a small obsession and within about 3 weeks I had everything I needed picked out and being shipped to my house. When my products arrived I immediately whipped up my first batch. The look and the texture was not to my liking, but the feel of my skin and the all day moisture was exactly what I needed. So, I started taking natural skincare formulation classes to perfect my own formulating technique. That’s when I decided to share this product with those who share the same skin problems as I did. On May 15, 2018, Jaded Body Butter was created with 1 product, 1 jar size, and 5 essential oils.
Fast forward to today, we now have 5 jar sizes, 10 different natural butters to moisturize your entire body, 12 essential oils, over 30 premium fragrance oils, multiple facial and body cleansing products, sugar and salt scrubs, serums, toners, an entire men’s skin and beard care line, and two subscription boxes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggle that I would say comes with having a small business where you sell hand crafted products is getting others to trust the benefits of your products. Once the pandemic hit and so many people started crafting their own products to make ends meet after being laid-off or furloughed, this market became even more saturated. My thoughts were to keep going with what I had already built prior to the pandemic and know that there is room in this market for everyone to succeed. Every brand is different, every technique is different, every formulation is different, and that’s what made Jaded Body Butter different.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I always say what sets us apart from others is our formulation and our technique. We are known for our signature product, Whipped Body Butter, that is formulated with 3 natural butters, unrefined shea butter, 100% mango butter, and 100% cocoa butter.
As a Natural Skincare Formulator, I am most proud of being able to craft products that are beneficial to the health and beauty of everyone’s skin, even those with sensitive skin issues. After going through chemotherapy my skin became even more sensitive to commercial products than it was prior. So, I am also proud that my products can benefit even those that have had to suffer through chemo treatments, and putting the health of the skin first.
