Check Out Tammy Watford-Brown’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Watford-Brown

Hi Tammy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Alittle background about me I’ve been an entrepreneur, creative and a boss since a teenage girl. The Selfie Closet came about from a dream I had and became a daily thought. It was literally manifested from that dream. During our downtime with Covid, I had a lot of days to do a lot of thinking. My Glam Bar that was located in Decatur at the time was closed and I had too much idol time on hand; something I’m not use to. In that time Yahweh gave me the thoughts of a Photo Studio. This thought took over my mental, it’s something I thought about daily literally.
I then purchased a composition book, titled it Photo Studio and started writing my daily thoughts. I have a 1st cousin name Cheo who’s very creative just like me, we think and move the same most of the time. I called him up and told him I needed to talk to him, but I needed to talk to him face-to-face. I wanted him to know by looking in my eyes that I was very serious about what I was talking about. He was working on a project at the time and told me to pull up on him. Once I got to him and gave him the complete rundown on my thoughts, he was all in!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Preparing to create the now “Selfie Closet ATL” was not a easy course. When I decided to create this space I was looking at large warehouse buildings. If your familiar with commercial spaces in Atlanta then you know large warehouse spaces or retail spaces etc. is not cheap in pricing. I spent countless days looking at several different spaces, trying my best not to get discouraged. When I say these folks in the ATL want them dollars for these large spaces, they do! With no funding for a large space, I had to reevaluate the size of this Photo Studio. I spent sleepless nights thinking of ways to obtain a large space just with hustling the money up. In this time frame my husband Jonathan had already moved my Glam Bar from Decatur to the Westend of Atlanta.
We had already planted a seed in the Westend….
I had been thinking about going online completely with my Glam Bar, then sitting in there one day it HIT ME!! I called my husband and my cousin to tell them both that the space that the Glam Bar is in could be a small start to a larger Photo Studio one day. I think they were alittle skeptical but they came to evaluate it with that in mind.
I already had layouts, I laid out my thoughts on how we could create this space. We called a meeting, created our TEAM and eventually became the Selfie Closet CEO’s.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Not only am I the CEO of the Selfie Closet ATL but I’m also of the greatest to do it in the Hair Industry in my City. When I retired from hairstyling after having my 14 year old daughter I then went into the makeup side of the Beauty World. During my transition from hairstyling I worked for Bovanti Cosmetics, also freelancing for Bovanti at the Bronner Brother Hairshows. I’ve always did brows and lashes while styling so working for Mrs. Bohannon at Bovanti was just the icing on the cake.
Everybody knows me for being a Top Tier Hairstylist and having 2 Sets of Twins.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m very Unique in my own way!
The way I dress, my approach to life and my complete thought process is very different. I’ve been hustling since 14 yrs old and the way I went about my career was not the popular vote for the common world.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I do want people to know I’m from the Midwest, I moved to Atlanta with my 2 Sets of Twins and what I thought was some money. No help, no job, just a plan…. Times got VERY HARD for me as a single parent! I literally had to hustle and parent at the same time, that’s not easy. I was fire tho at caring for and styling hair so I just needed the right Salon. I thought about moving back home several times, I even had a date set but Yahweh said I didn’t bring you this far for you to give up; so I stayed! I’ve now been married for 15 yrs, started dating my husband a year after that set date and I now have an additional child. When you stand on your FAITH, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!!
M.S.A
I wouldn’t move here without a husband, a job or support system; that was the hard part!!
