Today we’d like to introduce you to Ted Hargrove.
Hi Ted, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It started with my love for photography in college taking self-portraits while attending NC A&T State University. I have always had a passion to learn about technique, composition, and posing. In 2012, I was gifted my first camera by my husband which allowed me to have more time to practice various subjects. During that time, I self-taught myself about the art and business side of photography.
I launched my business in 2016, which allowed me the opportunity to photograph my first client. As I am approaching my seventh year in business, I have been blessed to meet amazing people and photograph the most incredible places. Currently, I specialize in personal portraiture (including branding and headshots), landscapes, and architecture. Being a one-man show has not only allowed me to gain tough skin but allowed me to blossom into the photographer I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If I said it wasn’t any I would be lying. Just being a business owner comes with obstacles internally and externally. Speaking from experience, just taking that first leap can be challenging. Navigating the ups and downs of client expectations and knowing when it is time to grow. I have learned to overcome those obstacles by making time for myself so that I always give my best to the clients I serve.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Ted Hargrove Photo specializes in branding, headshots, personal portraiture, and real estate. I am known for capturing emotion in my subjects and we are all about the details. I am proud of the work that I have created over the years that shows the diversity and inclusion of my clientele. I want my clients to feel like a celebrity when they shoot with Ted Hargrove Photo. My favorite motto is “It’s not about the photo, it’s how you felt when you took the photo”.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up in a single-parent household, I was really into the arts whether it was music, coloring, styling, or watching commercials. On Saturday mornings, during cartoons, I would record the commercials and rewatch them and analyze the meaning and concept. As I got older, those interests blossomed with participating in local productions and singing in the choir at my local church. Now that I am all grown up, to remain inspired I love visiting museums to energize my creativity.
