Check Out Tevin Keith’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tevin Keith.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story is simple, I don’t now when to quit. And probably never will. I went from working a dy job at a plant repairing AC’s to shooting for one of T.I.’s label artists within a week thanks to my friend, Jude Boi. I initially turned down the gig because of work but I ended up almost dying on the job due to another coworkers negligence. When I went back to work they tried to find any reason to fire me to avoid a potential lawsuit so rather than be upset I walked out the manager’s office smiling the biggest Ive ever done. Because I knew nothing was holding me back now.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles I’ve experienced being apart of the film industry are probably the most impactful and life changing moments of my life. I went from working 60+ hours for someone else at $25 an hour to working 100+ hours for myself making $5,000-$6,000 so I was hooked on the grind and the money. This change required me to have more discipline within my new found freedom because it’s easy to fall into a rut of being behind on due dates and losing interest in a project which required my utmost creativity. I was also a father and I had to come to terms that the more I was working the less I was with my family. Combine that with absolutely no knowledge of the industry’s waters or the sharks lying within its depths and you can only imagine the list of lessons I had to learn first hand.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I refer to the style of work I create as “Cinematic Storytelling”. I feel it’s a super power in creating the most from nothing. I love a blank canvas because it has the most potential become any an everything beautiful. As a full time director, cinematographer & photographer I tend to deal visual arts a lot especially lighting.

I’ve been on larger production sets like Step Up: High Water, Love & Hip-Hop, and P-Valley and those experiences were dope but I felt like a small piece of a much bigger machine. I didn’t get to see all the other moving parts unlike being on smaller sets or a part of a skeleton crew. With those smaller set ups I get to work everywhere and and see more of the moving parts. That’s why I appreciate the opportunity to be on projects like “Nextville”, “Grit & Grind”, Rolling Museums” with Skychace Entertainment.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Being happy with whatever you’re doing in life. Theres people with 9-5s living happier fulfilled lives than some of those with millions of followers and world recognition. It’s beauty in the simple things and the extraordinary.
