Today we’d like to introduce you to Toy McCoy.
Hi Toy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a South Side Chicago kid raised by a Jamaican powerhouse of a mother who came to America, got her citizenship, had me, and raised me solo. My father? Let’s just say I met him once in high school and… well, let’s just say I walked away with character development.
Fast forward—I’ve been in sales and leadership for over 20 years, and now I help people open insurance agencies across the Southeast as an Entrepreneurial Agent Development Specialist. Basically, I build bosses.
On the side, I run two podcasts—RealTalk2U and Beyond the Cave—where we mix jokes, real talk, and emotional trauma into digestible audio episodes. I’m also writing a book called The Prey, The Predator & The Protector, because life’s wild and somebody’s gotta explain it.
I believe in legacy over excuses. With or without the mic I’m just a man with a mission.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth? Not even close. I’ve had more plot twists than a Netflix series.
I grew up without a father, but I had football to channel my energy. In high school and college, football wasn’t just a sport—it was therapy, structure, and purpose. It taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to keep going when you’re sore, tired, and doubting yourself.
After college, I got married young, thinking I had life figured out. Spoiler alert: I didn’t. The marriage ended in divorce, and honestly, that pain rocked me. But it also woke me up.
Pain has a way of equalizing all the noise in your life. It silences the ego and forces you to listen to your soul. That divorce—though tough—was the catalyst that made me stop performing for people and start showing up for myself. That’s when the real growth began. That’s when I found my purpose.
Since then, it’s been a journey of learning, healing, and building—not just for myself, but for others. And I’ll say this: the road may not have been smooth, but it made me strong. And I wouldn’t trade the struggle, because the struggle gave me the story.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work with everyone—from seasoned millionaires to folks with nothing but a dream and a few dollars—helping them become juggernauts in the insurance industry. My specialty is turning potential into performance. I help people build businesses from the ground up, guiding them through hiring, branding, marketing, cash flow, and long-term growth. I don’t hand out blueprints—I build with them.
But honestly, the skills I use in business development show up everywhere in my life. In podcasting, I do the same thing—give people space to find their voice and own their story. Whether it’s RealTalk2U or Beyond the Cave, I’m focused on helping people grow through conversation, vulnerability, and humor.
That mission continues in my upcoming book, The Prey, The Predator & The Protector. It’s about recognizing the role you’ve been playing in life—and deciding to evolve into something greater. Whether it’s business, relationships, or mindset, I help people stop surviving and start building.
So what do I do? I develop people. I multiply vision. And I help others see that their story isn’t over—it’s just getting interesting.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people see the leadership side, the strategist, the motivator—but what surprises them is how deeply creative I am. I don’t just build businesses; I write books, produce podcasts, and develop full storylines for graphic novels and film scripts. I’ve got a whole sci-fi project in the works that blends Afrofuturism, history, and legacy.
Even in my quiet time, I’m creating. Sometimes that looks like journaling. Sometimes it’s designing a new t-shirt drop.
And I think that’s what makes my approach different—people expect structure and strategy from a business developer, but I bring imagination, storytelling, and soul into everything I touch.
Because at the end of the day, business is just another way to tell your story. And I make sure people write the version worth remembering.
