Check Out Tree Lyiness’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tree Lyiness.

Tree Lyiness

Hi Tree, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At the age of 38, I realized my job didn’t appreciate my hard work, and I decided from that day forward to invest all my effort in all my time into my creativity instead of working for someone else. I have been going six years as a full-time artist! I do art shows, commission work, and even teach the “yutes” art. My art has no tile/genre or boundaries. I create to make beauty and heal my heart. I am inspired by many things, and I start new mediums all the time. Life is short, so try everything!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The art industry is not a smooth one! I have worked very hard for many years, and I am just starting to see a trickle of flow! The thing about me is I’m stubborn. I am determined to do art or literally starve! I was homeless and lived out of my studio (that you aren’t supposed to live in). I showered at a nearby gym for the first few years! I refuse to use my talents to build someone else’s future again to be tossed aside when they are done with me! I stand on business! I’m a hard worker; I put that focus into my passion (art). I paint what I like and what I want to see. I pour my heart into my art. I stopped making what I “think” people will like. Instead, I give my creativity freely and authentically and that’s the art that catches attention! I believe I’m where the universe wants me to be as I share my heart the universe provides.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I paint with acrylics and inks on canvas. I have done several Murals around the city. As well as digital art I also dabble in sculpture, fiber art, recycled art, and textile art! If I see something cool, I wanna try it. I will go get all the supplies and start creating! I paint a lot of lions. It’s my default setting. I NEVER have artist block if I don’t know what to make, I do a lion! I also painted “Tree Goddesses.” They are human-shaped trees with lots of meanings, wildlife, and symbols surrounding them.

My recycled art is made from dried paint chips I source from myself and other artists! By collecting this dried paint, I am keeping this toxic trash from getting into our waterways or the earth. While giving the paint a 2nd chance to be art!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I could always be bribed with art supplies! I spent as much time outside as I could. I built forts in the woods. I was and still am fascinated by nature. Every time my mom took my to the pharmacy, I could get a coloring book! I watched my granny paint and craft. Her husband loved her, so he learned woodworking and cut off a lot of his fingers to make her amazing crafts. I love love!
