Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Jai.
Hi Tyler, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
To be honest, how I started doing music was really just on accident. When Covid first hit Georgia, my brother and I were really bored in the house and just decided to get drunk and record. I ended up hitting up one of my friends who stayed in the mix, and went to his house to make a song. We had so much fun, I never had any intentions of releasing the song until I played a snippet on my Instagram story and I started to get so many interactions. Next thing you know, things went up from there. I started to experiment with different sounds and beats, during the process, I loved how much fun I was having. Later on, that’s what made me fall in love with the art, having fun. The more fun I had, the more comfortable I began to get while making it. More opportunities started to open up for me, it made me want to perfect my craft. I started to receive a lot of support, having a huge following base just from going viral a-lot from my pictures made it extremely easy for me to have the resources I needed to start out.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes and no! I’ve dealt with a lot. No one really talks about about the ups and downs starting your music journey. Although I’ve been taking it seriously for a year and a half, I’ve defiantly went through hell and back & many obstacles during the process. As far as depression, trying to find my sound, figuring out my audience I’m trying to tend to, deciding if I wanted to take music seriously, worried about if I’d be accepted for me, and of course dealing with my own personal issues.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist. I make music based on how I feel, without a care in the world. Just staying true to myself and allowing my music to speak for me. From what I notice, I specialize in what I would call rage/electric rage & pluggnb. I am known for a lot of things, which is the funny part. Before I started doing music, I was going viral for cross-dressing, in other words being a tomboy. I love fashion, it’s a form of freedom of speech without actually talking for me. I have my own style, I dress in what makes me comfortable and that’s all that matters. I have my own unique style/swag. I added my own flare to it, so it makes me, me! I am most proud of the fact that I am doing everything I want to do while still being myself. I don’t have to fake anything, I’m naturally me in the flesh. I believe what sets me apart from others is my confidence. My mom did a great job instilling confidence in me. I looked up to her & paid tons of attention to how she carried herself as a woman and picked up on her character traits. Because of her, I always walk with my chin up & head held high. No matter what, nobody can tell me SH*T. Thanks to my mom, ha!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Huge shoutout to my RICHROCKSTAR family, as well as my managers (Daniel & Ari), my producer/dj/engineer ASTRONOMIKAL, as well as Big Papito, my family & friends, my team and of course my supporters/fans who continue to support me throughout this whole journey. There’s never been a “I” in my team, I’m not afraid to let the world know I had help from a few helping hands and I am very grateful for that.
