Check Out Velli Van Gogh’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Velli Van Gogh.

Hi Velli, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to creativity in all its forms. I started dancing at a young age, learning to express myself through movement and eventually teaching and choreographing for others. Over time, my love for visual art grew alongside my passion for music. I began creating murals, developing my own artistic style inspired by culture, nostalgia, and storytelling.

As I kept evolving, I picked up a camera and fell in love with photography and videography. What began as a way to document my own performances turned into a full creative practice—shooting music videos, portraits, and conceptual visuals for artists and brands.

Music has always been at the center of everything I do. From songwriting and recording to producing and performing, it fuels my desire to inspire people and create authentic connections. All of these outlets—art, music, choreography, photography, and video—feel like different languages I use to share my story and highlight the stories of others.

Today, I’m focused on growing my creative business and building a platform that blends all these passions into work that feels original, cinematic, and impactful.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. Between high school and college, I went through some tough losses — friendships that faded or fell apart, and the passing of my grandmother, who meant the world to me. Those experiences forced me to grow up quickly. I had to learn how to create from pain, not just joy. It was hard trying to balance life and art while feeling like I didn’t have the same support system anymore. But those challenges shaped me. They sharpened my creativity and gave me something real to express through everything I do — whether it’s music, dance, visuals, or storytelling.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a multidisciplinary creative — a creative expressionist if you will. I write, record, and perform music, choreograph and direct dance, shoot and edit visuals, paint murals, and draw. My work spans a lot of mediums, but everything I do is rooted in storytelling. I’m probably best known for how I bring all those pieces together — being able to direct a dance visual, score it with my own music, and then turn around and design the promo artwork or paint a mural tied to the project. It’s not just about doing a lot — it’s about making it all connect.

One thing I’m really proud of is Welcome 2 Atlanta, a dance collective I started that gives dancers a space to train, create, and grow without pressure. I’m also proud of the murals I’ve painted around the city — they’re bold, personal, and a part of my visual voice just like my music or choreography is. Even my drawings — whether it’s detailed pen work or digital sketches — play into how I design cover art, visuals, and motion graphics.

What sets me apart is how hands-on I am in every part of the creative process. I don’t just dabble in different lanes — I live in them. Whether I’m choreographing a stage piece, recording vocals, painting a wall, or editing a music video, I treat each one with the same level of intention and craft. I use every skill I have to build experiences that are real, raw, and layered with emotion. I’m not just telling stories — I’m building entire worlds from the ground up.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Yes — if anything I shared resonated with you or you want to dive deeper into my world, you can find my music on all streaming platforms under Velli van Gogh. Every song, visual, or piece of art I release comes from a real place, and I’m always evolving. Whether you’re looking for something to dance to, reflect on, or just feel, there’s something there for you.
