Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Mariachi.
Hi Victor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I was a kid in middle school I was drawn to Hiphop Music from watching music videos. I use to print lyrics from my favorite artists like Nas, Tupac and Eminem to sing along to. In 2006 my family moved to Mexico From Georgia and then a year later we ended up in Canada
Once in St. Francis High School which was a Catholic school, I started to memorize my own lyrics and perform them at the lunch tables to a crowd of kids, After doing this a couple of times the crowds got bigger from people finding out I could rap and then I started to record songs shortly after. I was influenced by the attention I was getting through my words and felt it was my passion.
In 2011 -2013 I started releasing Mixtapes on Datpiff.com and posting videos on WorldStar. At this moment I was still searching for my voice and sound, In 2015 I released an EP called “Old Children” and made physical copies. One of the cds was found on the street by Chad Radford the music editor of Creative Loafing at the time. After he did a story on me and my music I started to get shows around the City of Atlanta. My first show was at ‘529’ opening for a group called ‘WAKE’ and then it was a snowball effect after that.
I started to write more songs based on the Mexican-American experiences around that time and became more obsessed once trump became president.
For the first time I felt the need to protect the people I loved from lousy and prejudice rhetoric. The concept of “Super Humans” evolved which was an idea of making music to uplift mexicans and people with similar immigrant stories. In 2020 I released that idea in an album with several music videos that got me more attention as the message really resonated with people. “Homerun” which is a biographical song of my mother (currently at 57K views) and My song “Going Back to MX” has over 35k streams on all platforms.
I started to perform in large Festivals like OYE FEST and Boiler Room showcases after my second album ‘DANIEL’
.
My goal now is to continue to progress as an artist and to uplift our community by sharing our stories.
Currently working on more music and doing shows around the city of Atlanta so people know more about the music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would have to say no, pursuing your passion comes at a cost.
Even more so when you come from an immigrant family because of certain disadvantages we carry.
Another struggle would be my appearance as far as people making judgements before hearing the music,
But all these things became beneficial also because it makes you stand out.
Im grateful at the end of the day.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a rapper/recording artist/songwriter and sometimes video director.
I specialize in making songs and writing all my lyrics. I can freestyle too
I’m known for making rap music especially around Mexican American experiences and struggles.
What i’m most proud about would be the progress i’ve made so far and the supporters I have acquire on the way.
In all sincerity I think what sets me apart is my love for the art form and how seriously I take lyricism.
I have a standard when it comes to writing rhymes that was placed in my mind from the legends before me.
