Today we’d like to introduce you to Xi Chen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I love traveling. I have been traveling to 12 countries so far. I think I got some motivation from this hobby, which motivates me to expand my horizon and do some adventures in my life. So, I quit my stable job in Beijing, China. And came to here. I appreciate my parents all supporting me to chase my dream. I already finished my MFA graphic program. I am looking for a job opportunity in the U.S. right now. Very excited to start a new page here. Moreover, I was thinking that I should do some risks in my life since I am still young and dynamic. I don’t want to frame my life in a comfortable zone until I become old and complain about life is boring. I want to explore more. Let my life has some chemical reactions.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not. It is tough, difficult, and stressful. Because I am 30 years old. It is not easily acceptable for women who still think about themselves at this age in China. From society’s perspective, women in this age should think about building a family, having a baby, caring about parents, managing financial apporpratly, etc. Women who are 30 plus have a lot of tags in their life. I have to conquer all those challenges to focus on my goal under some judgments and weird attitudes. Even I have strong and concrete faith to finish my goal. Sometimes, I was confused and lost during the process. I am lucky because my parents are very open and never gave me the pressure of women having to do something mandatory at 30 years more. For me, ageism is a big challenge along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a graphic designer who has almost 15 years of working experience in the graphic design field. I didn’t have very outstanding results in my career. But I do have more respect and trust from the previous companies’ reviews. I think I am a perseverant person. This is my magic to chase my dream. If I have a plan, I will do it step by step until it works.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I enjoy team working. I could glean a lot of inspiration from the collaboration. Usually, nice communication, trusty and hardworking are important components to collaborate well with others.
