Today we’d like to introduce you to Yamaly ‘Kati’ Tait.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Free Mom Hugs was founded as a Non-Profit in 2018 by author and activist Sara Cunningham in OKC. I attended a pride event in Lilburn back in June and met some of the area leaders. I chatted specifically with Chapter leader Erin and she told me all about the movement. I was interested in that instant and we exchanged numbers. Just to hear how much of a drive and passion these moms had to support everyone in the LGBTQ+ community warmed my heart. I joined and became the Gwinnett Chapter Coordinator a month later. I have devoted my time to finding new ideas and resources to reach out to more people to show them that there is a village of moms waiting to love and support. No matter the age or race. No matter what they identify as.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being part of this amazing organization has been the best experience for me. With every organization, there come obstacles YES! But our team works hard and diligently to make sure that we come up with strategies that will help us in the long run. One of our Main challenges has been raising funds through our fundraiser link. to assist with being present at local pride events, purchasing items for our care packages and doing some additional outreach projects in our community.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a chapter Coordinator I help organize, coordinate and oversee events and activities in my community. I am responsible for tracking and managing my area’s volunteer requirements and spreading the free hugs mission. It is very important to me to share the message of embracing , empowering and advocating for the LGBTQ+ Community. So if you need assistance with bringing together all aspects of a production or project the area leaders and I execute some pretty amazing things.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Unconditional Love. We love you for exactly who you are. As you are. All the time. Without Limits. Without Judgement. We take pride in our mission “Empowering the world to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community through visibility, education and conversation. And yes, we still give hugs!”
