Check Out Zoe Mathis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Mathis.

Zoe Mathis

Hi Zoe, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.

Fashion has always been an interest of mine from childhood until today. I credit this passion to my mother who was a seamstress for many years, and who loved fashion as well. Because of my mother’s love for fashion, she would often make cute little outfits for me as a kid. Sometimes she would sew matching outfits for the both of us to include matching Halloween costumes. I believe her love for fashion piqued my interest in fashion even more. As a teenager, I was quite artistic, so I would often sketch out designs, sketch photos, draw on clothes, preferably jeans and took a few art classes throughout my early school years. My plans after high school was to attend an Art and Design school for fashion. Fashion was indeed my passion. Ultimately, I would go on to complete technical studies in Graphic Arts, but furthered my education in other areas to include a Bachelor’s in Legal Studies and a Master’s in School Counseling.

Over the years my wardrobe consisted of a variety of items where I would mix and match pieces, purchase eccentric shoes, and all things fashion regardless of the brands. I found my design niche around 2018 where I would capture attention with distressing jeans and designing denim jackets, subsequently resulting in the birth of Zoe’s Urban Vintique (ZUV). My first successful pieces were designed for my son, the up-and-coming artist known as Kaya 777, who at the time was developing his image in the music industry on all music platforms. We played with a couple of designs to capture a few styles highlighting images between rock and hip-hop. These custom designs resulted in the request for customized distressed denim jackets from other up-and-coming artists to include the artist known as Sofavgo. Unfortunately, the piece for Sofaygo would go unfinished due to his signing of a record deal. Today, Zoe’s Urban Vintique (ZUV) continues to strive for greatness through networking with others in an effort to grow in other areas.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For me, designing/styling jackets is a lot like crafting. Because of the creative and artsy side of me, designing comes natural and is very therapeutic. I can’t say building my brand has been a struggle, but the loss of my mother in 2022 played a part in slowing my efforts down a lot.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While I continue to grow my brand, Zoe’s Urban Vintique’ (ZUV), My full-time profession is in Human Services. I am a Programs Director for a Domestic Violence Agency, where we help families that are fleeing from Intimate Partner and Family Violence. This career is quite humbling and allows me to assist families who are less fortunate as well as those who find themselves in traumatic situations. I am known for being compassionate, empathetic, non-judgmental, selfless, a listener and driven to fix all things broken. Overall, I have a fixer personality. I am most proud of my upbringing as it allows me to make sound decisions from every aspect of my adult life. What sets me apart from others is empathy and my passion and willingness to advocate and speak up for those without a voice.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
For Zoe’s Urban Vintique’, I would love to continue networking with others of like minds and similar circles while working to grow my ZUV brand. I am open for pop-up events and other networking opportunities as they present themselves. I can be reached at zuvintique@gmail.com for anyone who would be interested in knowing more about my brand, ordering custom denim jackets or collaborating.
