Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscila Camara Gimenez.
Priscila, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
The year was 1999. I was back pack traveling in Europe. I had 7 days to travel as many countries I could as long as I would stop in Monaco. I had no values but my first film Cannon. For two minutes I left my bag alone in a train while traveling in France, and that was almost a tragedy for me, I almost lost my camera for a thief! That day I promised I will treat my camera like a kid and would never leave it alone again. And so I didn’t…
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a Newborn Photographer. I make people smile and cry of joy. I do capture unique and unforgettable moments that would last for a lifetime. I create the perfect atmosphere, using neutral colors in a very minimalist scenario. For a long time I thought I would never be a mom, and when I finally became one, I just had this connection with babies and cameras.
My message is: it is never too late to do what you love, in your personal life and in your work. I took a long time to finally be able to choose love instead of financial security. I can’t be happier and I feel ready for all new chapters in my career.
My artwork is perfectionist but clean and simple. My goal is to do better in every new shooting. I want to make sure my clients are comfortable with me handling their little babies. Safety always comes first, no matter what.
Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Being an artist is a passion that would give you good and not so good moments. I cannot say much about life as an artist since I recently became a full time one, but I think the media definitely makes things a bit more complicated. Everybody has assess to reviews, people’s works, etc. It does take a long time to become someone recognized but one little mistake may end a successful career in a heart bit.
An artist needs to be able to show their art, so it is important that cities have events that can attract artists and the public, to exchange their knowledges and show their art.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
