Today we’d like to introduce you to Sammy Saladino.
Sammy, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in the Peoria, Illinois area. During one of my semesters in college, I was taking a humanities class. One of the subjects that we were covering on one particular session was the art of photography. By this point, I was struggling to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. As I was looking through the magnificent photos, I thought to myself. “I can do this.” To this day, I don’t know why that thought went through my mind? However, it did. Within four months, I bought my first camera with my tax-returns and quickly found out that I was a natural. From that moment on; I spent a lot of time traveling across the country. Taking photos of the most stunning areas that the country had to offer. When I was home, I would find people that cheaply need photos done for wedding’s, parties, families, and even young amateur models who were looking to build their portfolio; all while I was building my own portfolio. In May of this year, I moved to the Atlanta area in hopes to build upon my photography career.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
As a photographer; especially of nature. If something catches my attention I want to capture it in a way that I see it through my own eyes. I want my audience to see things in a light they may have never seen it before. I want people to realize that beauty is all around us. In today’s society, we have a tendency to move along in a fast pace environment. If we just stopped for just one moment to take in the scene around us more often; maybe we would find ourselves less stressed about everyday life. That is the message of my work. It is about the beauty that surrounds our everyday life.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Today’s market is really tough for just about any artist. We as a country have a hard-appreciating art as it is always around us in our daily lives. Regardless if it is a painting or a photo hanging up in an office or even picking up your phone and putting your head jacks in to listen to your favorite tunes or going out to a movie with friends, to staying in and watching your favorite TV show or even picking up a book to read before bed; art is all around us on a daily basis. As wonderful as all this is we are oversaturated with art. Most people don’t realize just how many different artists it takes to film an entire movie. I feel because of this oversaturated market a lot of very talented artist go undiscovered, and even underappreciated.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Most of my work is scattered throughout social media. I have many photos that have been accepted into Getty Images and are available to buy commercially or for private usage.
