Check out Tanya Menoni’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Menoni.

Tanya, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I never in a million years would have imagined that I would become a wedding photographer! After college, I worked in marketing and later as a freelance writer. It is such a stereotype of female photographers, but it is true in my case – when I was pregnant with my first child, I decided to buy a real DSLR so I could take decent photos of my kids. I quickly fell in love and have been absolutely obsessed with photography ever since. I started my business focusing mainly on portrait photography, but weddings have become my primary focus. I love working with couples on the happiest days of their lives – the joy and emotion on a wedding day is unmatched! I shoot both film and digital, and I am obsessed with the color and tones of medium format film.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My inspiration really comes from my couples. I love working with two people in love and telling the story of their relationship through my images. On a wedding day, that includes capturing all of the details that – when combined – illustrate the story of their day. I utilize a combination of digital and medium format film to craft a narrative that helps my couples relive their wedding for years to come.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
I highly recommend that all artists – and photographers in particular – take a long hard look at their expenses when creating their pricing. This is why so many photography companies go out of business in their first few years. There are so many expenses that come along with owning your own business, so the best way to determine your pricing is to make sure you are accounting for all those expenses.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I share my work primarily on my website, http://www.tenthandgrace.com, and on Instagram @tenthandgrace. Instagram is such an amazing platform for photographers – it allows us to share our work with the world and has been a big driver in my business since I started photographing weddings.
