Check Out Tara Farhan’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Farhan.

Tara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I reconnected with my artistry about a decade ago as an alternative way to meditate and express myself creatively. The need to express myself has been the focal point of my life. Since I can remember, I have always had an immense passion for art and a jewelry obsession. I enjoy producing paintings and mixed-media art; mainly acrylic on canvas, acrylic & thread on canvas, and colored pencil. I also love to make hand-crafted stretchy stacking bracelets, tie-dye bandanas, and much more. My art and creations are heavily influenced by my Persian/Iranian roots and by my Mother. You will see that the use of the evil eye is the central focus of most of my paintings and is incorporated in my jewelry. My evil eye paintings are part of my “Evil Eye Universe” collection.

In addition, I love creating art that empowers women, such as my recent “Zan” collection (Zan means woman in Farsi). I also enjoy painting psychedelic paintings and scenic paintings. My mother is who I owe my creativity to. She is an incredible artist and has taught me to not only be a powerful woman but to always express myself. More professionally, I am the Operations Manager of a high-end women’s fashion specialty store in Buckhead- Tootsies. While working in fashion, I have been exposed to a variety of designers and brands that have inspired me to showcase my passion. I aim to incorporate positivity, happiness, peace, nature, and universal vibes with each one of my pieces. Currently, I am working on several commissions and am continuing to express myself with my art, here in my birth city, Atlanta. My art pieces are all available for sale through my Etsy. However, specific requests and/or custom orders can be made via email.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a collective, life generally has obstacles for us all. My art has been the remedy for so many obstacles I have encountered in my life so far. The biggest challenge for me personally, is thinking that I am not capable. However, I am a firm believer that you need to continue working on what you are passionate about and what makes you happy. Bumps in the road help build character and naturally push us to work harder!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love to use my hands artistically. I paint, I draw, I make jewelry, I tie-dye fabrics, and am always experimenting. Recently I have mostly been focusing on my paintings. As I mentioned earlier, I have two collections- one is the “Evil Eye Universe,” and the other is the “Zan” collection. In my “Evil Eye Universe” collection, I incorporate my fascination with the evil eye and our universe into one. Not only are they evil eyes, but I also consider them mini universes as well. In the Zan collection, I paint bold geometric shaped backdrops and stitch female silhouettes over the painted canvas. This collection allows me to showcase women who inspire me and the beauty of the female body. Most recently, I have painted The Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg and First Lady Michelle Obama. I think some things that set me apart are the bright colors I use, the daring color combinations, and usage of the evil eye in my artwork. I am very proud of my two collections, they showcase my culture, my passion, and my personality. Make sure to check out my Instagram for all my new content!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
An important lesson I have learned is to never stop creating. Even if it is just for 10 minutes of your day, create. Self-expression is one of the most beautiful languages of self-love. Find yourself in whatever it is that allows you to express yourself (the possibilities are endless). Like I said earlier, work on what you are passionate about and what makes you happy. No matter what anyone says or thinks, you will see the light shine bright within everything around. Life is too short to be living just a mundane life, live it colorfully!
