Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Cox.
Taylor, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was always creative growing up. In high school, I took an art class almost every semester. Art was just it for me, but I didn’t know exactly what that meant as far as a career. I graduated from Kennesaw State University with my BFA and concentration in painting and drawing. When I graduated, I was already working part-time at a wholesale art company. I eventually worked full-time for a couple of years after graduating with the intention of doing everything in my power to go out on my own. I quit my full-time job two years ago this fall. I don’t think I made a conscious choice to be a fine artist it just naturally evolved into that.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
For the most part, I am just experimenting and playing around with different compositions or brush marks. I daydream a lot about different ideas. I look at older paintings that I have done and imagine what I could add on top of them. When I paint an abstract I imagine sunbathers basking in the sun on top of a brush mark, it is really all about creativity for me. I get excited the most when I am creating something that I have never seen before. I have never seen a giant thick brushstroke on a painting with a person swimming in it before. That is exciting! I hope that people see that excitement in my work.
I do believe I’m still developing my personal style — it will never stop. I feel that I’ve found a nice balance of abstraction and realism that I’ve been searching for since I started painting.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I don’t think our role has necessarily changed, but social media has given artists an amazing opportunity to share their work with the entire world. I hope when people view my work that it takes them away for a bit. I imagine my beach scenes and paintings as another world. It’s a happier world for sure.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have an online shop via my website at www.taylorcoxart.com. I primarily post daily on my Instagram. Every couple of months I have a new series release on my website where you can purchase a painting. I also have prints available on my site.
