Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Davis.
Hi Tiffany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I moved away from my family, I started teaching myself to paint. Growing up, I only drew as a hobby but I always wanted to learn how to paint. My parents made it clear that art was a hobby and shouldn’t be taken seriously so I wasn’t really allowed to devote my time to art until I was old enough to move. It has been four years since I’ve been painting. Because I felt like I needed to prove to my parents that art can be a rewarding career, I e pushed myself to learn as much as possible and enhance my painting skill. Now they’re my biggest fans.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a full-time artist has been very tough. There are awesome days when you may sell a piece instantly and there are times where your piece can go unnoticed. There are so many things to research and to do when you’re an entrepreneur but I love being my own boss. One of the hardest parts are staying motivated when times are slow and always having to create even when you’re not in the best mood. It’s definitely challenging but rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your art?
I am a visual artist. I am a body painter, set designer, muralist and illustrator. I mostly create artwork using oil and acrylic paints. I work on a large and small scale. I create my own pieces and I also take commissions. Painting is my specialty. I also paint people. I also design movie sets and illustrate children’s books. I am proud of everything I’ve accomplished so far because they were all new venues for me so to be able to explore and also do a good job makes me the proudest. I really put my all into my work no matter what it is that I’m working on. I want people to know how much my art means to me and that I want them to have quality. I will also say that I’m a very emotional person and I put a lot of that into my art. I feel that art is not art without emotion.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I’ve learned to observe more. There’s so much going on around us that we don’t pay attention to normally because life is so hectic. Also, we should be more grateful of the things we do have. This year was a struggle for me mentally but I’ve learned to be patient with myself and take things one day at a time.
