Check out Wade Lincoln’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wade Lincoln.

Wade, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
“Painter, opportunistic IPhone photographer, writer, author, musician, cabinet maker, builder, Renaissance man, kind of guy”.

I am a self-taught maker of stuff. I’ve been a professional musician, songwriter, cabinet and custom furniture maker, remodeler, coffee shop owner, gallery owner, author and photographer of a fun coffee table book about my favorite little island… On Tybee Time (ontybeetime.com), and now a full time painter!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I have two different and distinct painting styles… one in oil and the other in acrylic. I am a self-taught artist who wanted to paint like Edward Hopper.

Like so many others, I was drawn to Hopper’s stark imagery and dark narrative. In that vein (with oil paint), I create figurative representations of an American life and landscape.

The other work, acrylic on canvas, is best described as representational Minimalism. It’s the focus of all of my recent art. It was inspired by a trip to the California desert.

I came home reinvented as a minimalist! The work combines elements of pop art, geometric art, hard edged painting, and Minimalism.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
The events personally don’t affect my art. Some artists want their work to disturb and provoke… and that’s fine. I just prefer mine to be pleasant and cerebral.

I certainly think there’s a place for art (2D, 3D, music, etc.) that challenges one’s perceptions and personal world-views. Artists, in general, are passionate people and we know that people with passion can inspire great change.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I live in Stone Mountain and do occasional shows and exhibits around the city. I display work at The North Park Gallery in Marietta.

It’s a great gallery of Atlanta area artists, many of which were with me at my previous gallery, Decatur Fine Art.
