Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Johnston.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I would have to say that my story started as a progressive process that was as much a part of my personal life growth and struggle as it was of academic and professional dynamics. I was in the process of becoming what I am today for many years and more specifically of what lead to creating my business, it was a year of extreme creativity while also extreme stress in an HR Manager role. This contrast could be viewed as the birth of Tealonics with the vision and mission of helping others achieve inner and outer growth with the methodology that I used to improve the quality of my life. There is more to us as human beings than just to be consumers, tax payers, and social media followers. This is what really inspired me to want to formalize my mission of helping others but I didn’t want to be a therapist even though I have a BA and MS in Psychology. What I find to be most impactful is the action to propel one’s life forward from the present. While working full-time for several years in the field of HR and Payroll and working part-time to establish and grow my business, I started coaching, learning, and evolving it all. I no longer work in the field of HR and Payroll so that I can focus on my clients 100% of the time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been part of the evolution in the case of building my business which has it’s bright days and some shadowy days. In other words, there were moments when everything seemed to be lining up, only to find that there were some things that fell through or took longer than estimated to finalize. Something that went super smooth was getting the business registered and once people learned about what I’m doing, they love it and are super interested.
One of the biggest challenges is getting the word out there about what Life Coaching is and how to engage us. I’ve tried loads of different avenues like social media, paid ads on Thumbtack, and I have a blog. I want to do some videos for YouTube and partner with local county health goals since part of life coaching is health and career coaching. So, the challenge is getting the word out there. Another challenge that was more existential was deciding and really distilling down what exactly I want to do to help people. Through the coaching process, I found that the people who hired me were those who were going through a transition, usually a difficult one, and I help them rebuild from the inside out.
As you know, we’re big fans of Tealonics, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I originally was going to go with another name but then found another similar company was using that, so I decided to go with TealOnics, LLC. Everyone asks me, “what is Tealonics?”
TealOnics was born from two compound ideas merged into my new baby, Teal + Onics.
“Teal” refers to the healing vibe of green and blue mixed. Teal is also associated from many ancient cultures with healing and vitality.
“Onics” stems from the word harmonics, because I believe and I think scientists have proven that everything is energy that evolves and nothing ever disappears but transforms.
So, TealOnics means Healing Harmonics and is a method that I refer to as the TealOnics Method of helping people move from a place of being “stuck” to a position of progress. I do not believe we are ever “done” with progression as we have so many phases of life.
I think there is a misconception that we follow certain social norms and then we arrive at “success” and then after some time, other events happen that unlock challenges that we didn’t expect or weren’t prepared for. Some examples might be health related concerns that creep up for ourselves or loved ones. How do we cope with that, especially when we are expected to maintain that achievement of arrived success?
Other areas would be other life events like death or divorce. Some of my clients experience struggles when they’ve been through a hard relationship transition that they don’t know where to go from there.
Lastly, I see people stuck in the area of career – they’ve been in one career that they most likely didn’t intentionally choose, it just happened for them and they find themselves in a point in life when they just really need a change. they go back to school, they get certified, but how do they actually make that change? Career shifts are not as simple as some might sell them to be.
One of the things that I do differently than many other coaches is that I leverage my own unique life experience (that’s a whole other story) plus my academic education, my certifications, and then I also harness some holistic techniques like tuning forms, numerology, and meditation to help unblock and align people with their true personal vibration. I have always had a gift of hyper sensitivity empathically and though as a child I was told I was “too sensitive”, it turns out, I’m just the right amount sensitive to truly serve people who are hurting and need that empathic support where they can be truly honest and free to explore their truth without judgement.
I also have traveled a lot and lived in multiple countries as a local from Egypt to France and speak French for anyone who needs a French speaker (just know, I’m a bit rusty). The travel gave me a unique education and I know that different and diverse perspectives truly make our environment richer and more beautiful. I know how important it is to respect the cultural differences and not judge them but be curious and open.
Why the TealOnics Method? This is going to attract people who seek something different than what’s out there because I don’t use personality tests. I use a unique app that looks at a person’s date of birth and birth name to identify their energetic profile that includes, their potential purpose, challenge points which are the things that will present as things to overcome for learning, and personality traits. The “Life Alignment Blueprint” encompasses, careers that fit, as well as helps me see what chakra blockages the client is likely struggling with and then I can also leverage the power of harmonics and virtual life coaching sessions where we partner together on the goals that are most important for my client.
One of my clients has an autoimmune disease and was in a difficult living situation with their recently broken relationship. They also were wanting to move overseas and become a language teacher in this new country. I helped them with practical things like reconnecting with their body through intentional walks, easy candle-light meditation, and practical steps that they decided on to move closer to their goals.
Ultimately, as a coach and guide, I help my clients with what is important to them within the framework that speaks to them. Ultimately, change requires the ability to open the mind, cultivate growth through ideas, and then implement practical baby-steps to work toward achieving those goals.
I am very proud of and filled with joy about the progress my clients have made working with me. I always get feedback that people feel so much better and filled with hope after just one discussion and it takes different people, different time to achieve the goal of becoming “unstuck” – my goal is seeing my client no longer need me to move forward with new goals because they now have the tools to continue making progress in their life.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My successes are really attributed to my clients because they are the light that shines brightly. My ability to connect with my clients and provide them a non-judgmental and empathic place of safety has been a strong platform for achieving amazing results. I also think the balance of flexibility and professional boundaries keeps pathway clear. I’ve also been told that people love to participate in the metaphysical science of numerology and meditation as well as (upon request) some tarot readings.
Ultimately, I strongly believe in meeting my clients exactly where they are – meaning, if my client wants a more traditional psychology-based (i.e. positive psychology or motivational interviewing) techniques, I always follow my client’s lead.
I also stay open-minded and so I also take on corporate clients who are looking for my services for health and career coaching where they are adding these services to their benefits portfolio for their employees.
