Today we’d like to introduce you to Ameerah Jihad
Hi Ameerah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up I would always go with my mom to my aunts house and they would braid each others hair. One day I got tired of just watching tv and decided to go in the room and watch my mom braid my aunts hair and I began to learn. I caught on quickly and ever since that day I have always done my own hair and a few others. In 2022 I quit my job of loading packages into trucks and decided to go to cosmetology school. Since starting school I have grown from having zero clients to now having clientele in Virginia, Georgia, Miami, Chicago and more. I plan to continue servicing people all over the world and eventually get my brand so well known that I begin traveling consistently to service my clients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has been many challenges along the way. While attending cosmetology school, being a mom, working a full time job and growing my own beauty business (which you can check out my products at www.4thelook.com) it has definitely been mentally and physically draining. At the end of the day it all just depends on how bad do you want to succeed. Things just don’t happen overnight so no matter what comes my way I know what I desire for myself and my family so any challenges I’m faced with along the way I’m willing to push through it.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a hairstylist and currently my business is called StylesByMeerah. I specialize in Locs but also will do natural braided hair and wig installs. I am most known for my loc styles. I am able to do any style I see. There hasn’t been any style a client has shown me or wanted that I was not able to achieve and I love that for me. I believe thats truly what sets me apart because yea the traditional re-twist and two strand twist are cool but let’s get creative with it, hair is art. I am most proud of my growth. Just two years ago I had no clients and now im taking appointments left and right. Something about me and my brand that I want readers to know is, Im passionate with what I do. I don’t do this to just have money in my pocket or to compete with anyone else in the same market, I do it because I truly love and enjoy it. Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I believe Covid 19 was a time nobody was truly prepared for. Some businesses failed and some new ones prospered. But overall it taught me not to take anything for granted and things can change in a blink of an eye. Never rely on just one source of income because that one can easily be taken from you or unexpectedly fail then it’s like “Now What?”. Dont put all your eggs in one basket but do everything you want to do while you are able.
