Community Highlights: Meet Ann Cordero of Coco Loco by Katiria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Cordero.

Hi Ann, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I worked in retail for 27 years. In September of 2020, I was told that my position was being eliminated. Because of this, I was faced with a decision of either staying with the company that I have been working for those 27 years in a different position (which would be discussed at a different date) or step out on faith. It was a difficult decision to make being that I am a single mother and the sole provider for my children, so I prayed about it and asked God for guidance. I needed Him to make the answer so clear that I wouldn’t be able to deny that I was making the right choice. In October of 2020, I was called to talk with my supervisors about the positions that was being offered to me and/or the possibility of leaving company. I was offered the same exact position as I started in 27 years prior. I took that as my sign to step out on faith and see what else was out there. I officially left the company in January of 2021 and started my own business in February 2021. I began to make custom t-shirts first with the goal to expand to other custom-made products. I chose this field because I have always been the artsy, creative type and I myself love receiving custom products as gifts. Today, I now make and create custom products of all kinds and I don’t plan on stopping there. I am constantly looking for more ideas, learning new techniques and listening to my customers about what they are wanting to purchase.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur is by no means easy. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, discipline and guts. Some of the obstacles that I personally faced were having to deal with those slow-selling weeks, getting exposure to grow my business, and learning how to run my own business as opposed to just running a department within a large company. I am still learning that aspect. I am lucky to have been able to learn a lot from other business owners who were willing to share information and experiences.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Coco Loco by Katiria, LLC?
I specialize in custom products of all kinds from t-shirts, bags and signing for your home or business. I think what sets me apart from others is that I am very customer service oriented. I want my customers to trust me to deliver a quality product that you can be proud to have purchased. I am proud that I have quite a few repeat customers who also recommend my business to others which I feel says a lot about my brand.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t like to think of it as good luck or bad luck. They are blessings and lessons. I believe the things that we go through are set in place to challenge, teach and prepare us for the bigger picture. All of the challenges that I have faced and still face from time to time has taught me how to prepare myself for the next steps. I am definitely better today because of those challenges from yesterday, and I will be better tomorrow because of whatever I may face today.
