Community Highlights: Meet Audrey Meah of BetterMinds Therapeutic Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrey Meah.

Hi Audrey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master of Social Work in 2006. Because social work is a pretty broad field, I’ve been lucky to work in a number of different capacities. I’ve worked everywhere from schools to prisons and everything in between. While I’ve worked in a number of different settings, the emphasis has always been in mental health. Much of my work has been working in emergency rooms doing mental health assessments, but over the past few years I have focused more on individual therapy with a number of digital platforms as well working in private practice. After gaining some experience and feeling confident in my abilities as a therapist, this year I decided to open my own private practice, BetterMinds Therapeutic Services.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest struggle was deciding to take the leap into entrepreneurship. I came up with a million reasons not to. Since making the decision, things have been happening in a way that lets me know it was the right choice!

As you know, we’re big fans of BetterMinds Therapeutic Services. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a social worker by education and profession. While I’ve worked in mental health for over 15 years, I have also worked in film and television as both an actor and expert therapist. Because of my experience with film and television, my practice takes particular interest in actors and other creatives. I currently facilitate group sessions with actors which allows creatives a safe space to talk about the emotional toll of pursuing creative dreams. I am committed to making sure that I, and the other therapists in my practice, are equipped with the skills needed to help actors deal with unique challenges that come with being an artist.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck when it comes to running a business (or anything for that matter). I believe in preparation meeting opportunity.
