Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Banyas
Hi Brad, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Sandy Springs and went to North Springs High School. About the time I graduated, my father Michael Banyas was moving from Corporate Business world into is entrepreneurial phase of his life which was an exciting thing for me to watch. He had started a software company and was dabbling with several non related projects in the patent area related to the bird feeder industry. I had never seen him so energized and enthralled, was very excited for his new found love entrepreneurship.
I went off to college, to attend about every college in the southeast, Georgia Southern, University of Tennesse, University of Georgia, Georgia State University, and short stent at Harvard Summer School and then met my lovely wife Brandy and started a family. Even with all this schooling and a lot of partying, I never had a firm grasp on what I actually wanted to do or be in life but had two children and a wife to take care of.
By this time my father had some success in his ventures, and he had seen both sides of the corporate world and entrepreneurial world. After I had done numerous jobs, bartender, construction and my first small venture a pressure washing company. I went to my father and simply asked him what should I do?
I had a lot of respect for my father, he gave me the most honest answer ” Brad” You are not employable, eventually you will have to start and run your own business but for now go be the best salesman you can be so no one can cap your earning potential and you can take care of your family. So, I went into software sales and had some success and started my first software company at 27 years old. We sold the company in 1999 and then started our 2nd software company OMI that is still in business today.
In 2021, my business Partner Paul Sciandra and I started our first venture outside the software business SaltyMF Enteprisess LLC. SaltyMF is a lifestyle business focused in areas we both had interest in that covers anything from music, sports, apparel and podcasting. The ethos of the Brand is The Attitude Wears Well and is all about honoring all kinds of people with focus on Family, Friendship and Loyalty!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business is life and has many obstacles or challenges, however my philosophy on life “it is what it is” sometimes. We did have many business challenges across our 30 years run in the technology space but a lot of people did, over that time 3 recessions, covid, internet bust in 2000 were the notible issues that all businesses and entrepreneurs had to to deal with. Some made it through some did not, which is always unfortunate.
If people ask me how did we make it? I can point to one thing that helped us navigate rough waters, business partnerships with like minded companies and strong personal relationships with both our partners and customers. We were able to focus on being fair to all parties involved, which we gained a reputation for being fair in all our dealings which is the sole reason for our longevity in business.
One word of advice for entrepreneurs, If you are not willing to put 5 years of everything you have in a business before you see repeatable success, don’t do it! Success is rarley an overnight event and it takes time, money, effort and a little bit of luck to build something to last.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
SaltyMF Enterprises was founded by two longtime friends and business partners Brad Banyas and Paul Sciandra. The Brand was born at the edge of the ocean with an encounter between Brad and a Salty old beachcomber. The two talked and told their life stories, Brad told the old man, “You are one SaltyMF’r,” as he turned and said goodbye, the old man yelled out, “That sure would make a funny t-shirt.” They laughed and went on their way.
