Community Highlights: Meet Brooke Owens of More Life Counseling LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Owens.

Hi Brooke, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I own my own private counseling practice specializing in individuals and couples. I went to get my Masters in Pastoral Counseling in 2019, then fully deconstructed my own Christianity during school (oops). Now I help people navigate through religious trauma and sexual shame as well as late-in-life queer exploration and non-monogamy. I worked fora group practice my first year out of grad school and made the transition to work for myself after that. I’ve been running my business going on three years out of my home office!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Working for yourself has its benefits and challenges. It was a struggle to figure out a schedule and work flow that worked best for me, but has overall been smooth sailing! I really enjoy the autonomy of being my own boss and the ability to adjust my work needs to fit with my personal life.

We’ve been impressed with More Life Counseling LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a counselor that works with the religiously traumatized, deconstructing, and sexually ashamed. I work with individuals and couples that are anxious, exploring their queerness and/or non-monogamy in some form. I help people reconnect to their body as their most trusted resource. I love somatic therapy, emdr, and internal family systems as modalities and I take a highly relational view of therapy. I work virtually with clients across the country and globally.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I’m an extremely curious person. Everyone makes sense within their own stories and I love digging into who a person is to better empathize with them and create a personalized plan for their therapy goals. I also love to infuse therapy with humor and lightheartedness. Therapy can be difficult and I think jokes help connect us as humans and point out how hilariously absurd things are at times.
