Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Walker.
Hi Candace, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Candace Walker is a fearless servant leader and dedicated advocate whose compassion and commitment to community service are unwavering. A graduate of Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma, she serves as President of the NAACP Henry County Branch, where her leadership has driven growth, increased membership, and strengthened community engagement.
A silver life member of the NAACP, Candace’s involvement began as a child in south central Los Angeles, where she participated in the ACT-SO program.
Today, she continues to lead by example—registering voters, recruiting members, and building relationships with local leaders to advance the mission of equity and justice.
Beyond the NAACP, Candace’s service extends to organizations such as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the National Council of Negro Women.
Alongside her husband, Rev. Clint Walker, she co-founded the Clinton Ron Walker Foundation, which provides scholarships and heart health awareness programs in honor of their late son. Together, they have given over $15,000 in scholarships and opened their home to international students, embodying the true spirit of “it takes a village.” Candace Walker is a beacon of resilience and inspiration, dedicated to uplifting others and creating lasting change.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been marked by both profound challenges and meaningful growth. The loss of my son to an undiagnosed heart defect was the most difficult season of my life; however, from that pain emerged a renewed sense of purpose through the establishment of a foundation in his honor.
While my election as President of the NAACP was uncontested, leading and managing the branch has required resilience, patience, and courage, as change is often met with resistance.
Through it all, I have learned the importance of remaining focused, blocking out distractions, and continuing to move forward with conviction and purpose.
We’ve been impressed with The NAACP Henry County, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The NAACP Henry County Branch is a community-based civil rights organization committed to advancing equity, protecting civil and human rights, and improving the quality of life for residents throughout Henry County.
We specialize in advocacy, civic engagement, voter education and registration, youth leadership development, community education, and coalition-building with local governments, schools, faith institutions, and nonprofit partners.
Our work spans issues such as voting rights, criminal justice, education equity, health equity, environmental justice, and economic empowerment.
What sets the NAACP Henry County Branch apart is our hands-on, people-centered approach. We are known for meeting the community where it is—whether that’s at the amphitheater registering voters, in schools working with youth, hosting public forums, or collaborating directly with local officials to address concerns.
Brand-wise, we are most proud of our growth, transparency, and renewed energy, reflected in increased membership, expanded programming, and strong community trust. We want readers to know that our branch is very active, accessible, and action-oriented. We are not just an organization of advocacy, but one of impact—focused on creating measurable change, empowering future leaders, and ensuring that justice, equity, and opportunity are realities for all in Henry County.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I value most about Henry County is its strong sense of community and family-oriented atmosphere. What I find most challenging is the need for improved infrastructure and the ongoing traffic congestion that comes with the county’s rapid growth.
