Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Mendoza
Hi Carolina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am an economist by profession, and for over 20 years, I was a university professor in my home country. Five years ago, I was forced to emigrate, marking the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey. Starting over in a new country, with a new language, at 55 years old, has been quite challenging. In the first two years, I secured an administrative job that provided me with the opportunity to learn about business management in the United States. Simultaneously, I decided to train in the field of taxation, initially for personal reasons. However, during my training, I identified the opportunity to combine my talents and professional background with this new field, allowing me to start my own business, where I could guide many Spanish speaking individuals in economic, financial, and tax matters.
This led to the creation of Carolina Mendoza Consulting Firm, a business consultancy dedicated to helping Hispanic entrepreneurs and small businesses transform their operations into profitable and successful ventures.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to return to teaching, one of my greatest passions. Currently, I work as a facilitator for the “Plan Your Business” course within the “Advancing Together” program of the Latin American Association. In this role, I support Hispanic women entrepreneurs in designing their business plans and shaping their entrepreneurial ideas.
My business has grown significantly, and I will soon be offering new services to meet the evolving needs of my clients. Discipline, continuous learning, confidence in my abilities, dedication to my clients and students, and networking have all been key elements in the growth of my business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being an entrepreneur and an immigrant is neither an easy nor a smooth path. Entrepreneurship is full of challenges and obstacles; it’s often a solitary journey where you must generate income in a world you’re just beginning to understand. My first challenge was training—finding the right place to acquire the knowledge and support needed to deliver the best service to clients. Researching, asking questions, and connecting with others in your field are incredibly helpful in overcoming this hurdle.
Another challenge I faced was reaching my ideal clients, getting them to know me, and effectively selling my services; in this case, networking and social media were essential tools. Entrepreneurship also requires addressing the emotional side, sometimes you feel like you’re not on the right path or doub your talents when sales don’t meet expectations. To navigate this resilience, a strong support network and creativity are necessary to ride the wave.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
