Hi Chantel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a NYC native with over seven years of experience in the fine jewelry and luxury timepiece world. I’m a Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) alumna, a New York State certified bench jeweler (Studio Jewelers, Ltd.), a Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certified gemologist, as well as a Cultured Pearl Association of America (CPAA) certified pearl specialist. My company, KZMT & Co.®, was founded in 2018. I have jewelry studios in NYC, the DMV, ATL and Las Vegas. My flagship location is in NYC’s Diamond District.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a black woman in the fine jewelry and luxury timepiece world is such a rarity, almost unheard of. I’ve had to deal with a lot of elitism, racism and sexism. It was difficult at first, considering I started my career as a jeweler at the tender age of 20, but as time went on, I realized I should never take any of that personal. People are just ignorant and I shouldn’t allow their ignorance to affect me or my small business.

KZMT & Co.® is an inclusive brand that bridges the gap between everyday accessories and fine jewelry. We specialize in custom jewelry, particularly custom rings/engagement rings. We also offer a collection of everyday jewelry that’s made with precious metals, semi-precious and precious gemstones, luxury timepieces, repair services, brand manufacturing services and jewelry repurposing services.
In 2020, we partnered with Facebook/Meta, Inc. for a two-part campaign series that launched worldwide. With 1M+ views, it has helped the business grow tremendously.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
As a child, my family would travel often. We would literally go on vacation every time school was out on a break. My love for traveling has spilled over into my adult life. Actually considering going on my first solo trip for my birthday this year.
