Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey hasn’t always been a smooth one; I’ve faced my fair share of challenges along the way. When I first became a mentor over two decades ago, I had my doubts and uncertainties. Like any new endeavor, there was a learning curve as I adapted to the demands of mentoring and coaching, but I was determined to make a difference.
During my 13-year tenure in the education field, I had to navigate the complexities of the educational system. From administrative hurdles to advocating for my students and mentoring programs, it was a constant challenge. Building and leading three different organizations was no small feat. I encountered obstacles in securing resources, managing finances, and making critical decisions.
One of the toughest parts of my journey was managing diverse audiences. I had to adapt my approach to suit the unique needs of various groups, from students to professionals to organizations. Tailoring my message and coaching techniques for each group was often challenging.
Balancing my personal life with my professional commitments was a constant struggle. Between a career in education, entrepreneurship and my dedication to mentoring and coaching, finding that balance was a demanding task.
I also faced resistance and skepticism along the way. Not everyone immediately embraced my mentoring and coaching approach. Some individuals and institutions were hesitant to adopt my methods or ideas, which could be frustrating at times.
However, despite these challenges, my dedication, resilience, and passion for mentoring and coaching have enabled me to overcome obstacles and achieve remarkable success in my endeavors. Navigating these challenges has made me more determined than ever to continue my mission of personal growth and helping others.
