Community Highlights: Meet Cristiane Depaula of Concept spa therapies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristiane Depaula

Hi Cristiane, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am Brazilian, born in Rio de Janeiro, and came to America 22 years ago. After an injury while practicing sports, I sought a massage therapist and felt great afterwards, falling in love with the medical side of massage. My journey wasn’t easy because I am a single mom, and my daughter was 4 years old when I went to school. It was tough on me because I remember coming back home every day at 9 pm and having to pick up my daughter, carrying her in my arms to the third level. I have worked in several different companies related to massage. My goal was to learn everything I could about the business side and also about massage techniques and modalities. I specialized in lymphatic drainage massage pre and post-surgery. One day at school, I mentioned that I was going to work with all the celebrities from Atlanta and passing by. Manifesting is real; my life with high-profile clients is amazing. In 2022, I made the decision to open a spa in Buckhead. It was a very stressful moment because I was wearing all the hats in the business (a big mistake). I had some setbacks; in the first year, I couldn’t open because the business was registered as residential, and it was rented to me as commercial. In 2023, when I was finally registered and legitimized as a business, I received a proposal to go to LA in November to work on a production for a movie called CITADEL for a year. So my decision was to negotiate with the landlord and return the space. After I made this decision, the strikes came, and everything changed. Now I am in the process of looking for another location (a front store). I see my clients at a studio in Sandy Springs and Johns Creek. I have three licenses as a medical massage therapist, esthetician, and laser practitioner.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The challenge for sure was the language barrier, since I had never been to school to learn English, it was difficult in the beginning. I love people and getting to know their stories and sharing mine. I think interacting with others is very interesting. For this reason, I had to study more and harder. I always want to make sure that I can educate my clients about their concerns and issues related to the body. I want to be able to give them solutions or provide them with the right protocol for treatments. By doing that, I became very knowledgeable in my craft. I studied a lot about anatomy, physiology, nutrition, plastic surgery, cosmetic procedures, etc.i had to give more of myself to make my clients respect my work and feel safe with me .

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very active town boy, always running around. I’m a go-getter, whatever I set my mind into, I get. My mom had to raise 4 kids on her own, and I always had the desire to learn more about everything. I started working when I was 12, as mom didn’t have the financial means, and I liked to have my own stuff. I think I was very independent.
