Community Highlights: Meet Denise Brinks of Brinks Chic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Brinks.

Hi Denise, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my first boutique in 2013! I actually started out of the trunk of my 1993 Grand Marquis. LOL, I was only selling accessories back then, I wasn’t on the internet besides promoting on social media. I use to pull up to different hair salons and ask to speak to the owner. I would introduce myself as well as telling the owner about the merchandise I sell. The owner would ask if I had merchandise on me. Of course, I did it’s in my trunk! LOL, so if she was interested in making a purchase, I knew the other women would be as well. Funny thing, every Friday and Saturday I was at every salon like clockwork. I only started with $500! I saved my money and invested it in my very first storefront! I will never forget my rent only being $400. I created my very own look for my boutique. Then, I went to selling Waist-Shapers! I had numerous of celebrity clients! Girls from Love & Hip Hop, Bad Girls Club, & Lil Kim! Then I started over again and again, and here we are TODAY with Brinks Chic! I am currently online only, however, I do offer local pick-ups as well as super fast shipping!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing ever comes easy! You have to stay consistent, the people love consistency. It’s like as you grow, the support you more and more. I’ve definitely had ups and downs with being an entrepreneur. I hadn’t worked for nobody since I was 22 years old. I have taken losses, I have gained, I started over, and I started over and over again. But, I knew exactly what it was I was aiming for. I told myself when 2022 started I was going to start fresh with my boutique. I was going to brand my boutique as I branded myself. I gave myself 3/4 months to plan ahead and do a 30-day promotion! I wanted my Brinks Babes to feel as if this was an unannounced Holiday for my babes! LOL It’s not easy, I struggle with certain things, especially like wanting to promote every day. But, one thing I will sell is, promote, promote, PROMOTE! You never know who’s watching. Post every day for your business and brand as well as standing on your presentation.

Brinks Babe came from my name. “Denise Brinks”, With “Brinks” defining money. I’m thinking to myself, “Brinks Chic”, for every female who gets up every morning and she makes stuff happen. She’s not waiting on the permission of others to execute her dream or her vision. She’s looking in the mirror at herself each and every day, letting herself know you got this, you can do this. The chic that is realigning her focus on herself and understanding that it is ok to be selfish, it is ok to love yourself.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was always into clothing. I use to sneak and wear my mother’s heels around the house to learn how to walk in them! LOL, My interest was always fashion, was always looking and reading magazines. My best friend’s brother had a men’s clothing store I use to work at. And I remember him taking me to a Fashion event. It was like numerous of vendors under one roof. At that very moment, I wanted to know more for women clothing. I learned how to basically promote because of him. Not to mention I was a promoter for a popular club out here in Augusta, GA.
