Community Highlights: Meet Don Rogers of The Rogers Law Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Rogers.

Don Rogers

Hi Don, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Donovan “Don” Rogers, and I was born and raised in the small rural town of Shannon, Mississippi. While growing up, my early years were spent exploring the woods, playing with animals, and nurturing ambitious dreams of making it to the NFL. I never met an attorney growing up. I always knew I could accomplish anything I put my mind to, no matter my surroundings.

One of the first instances that I can recall considering becoming an attorney was in Mrs. Wiseman’s 7th grade class. After completing a mock trial of the story, The Three Little Pigs, for which I acted as the wolf’s attorney, Ms. Wiseman pulled me to the side and asked had I ever thought about becoming an attorney. She planted the seed in my head, but like the average 12-year-old, I did not think too much about the question. I went on to pursue my football dreams in high school, earning a scholarship to junior college to continue my football career.

However, my love for football diminished and I chose to pursue my academics full force. In addition, I became a father to my son, Jonah, my freshman year of college. With a new responsibility, I continued my studies and worked brief stints at various factories, reaffirming my commitment to obtaining a higher education.

Upon graduating with my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Mississippi State University, my educational career presented different options – PhD in Psychology, physician’s assistant, or law school. While I was indecisive of the path to pursue, I took a year away from school and found myself working as a counselor at a male correctional facility. During this period, I realized that my passion is to help others.

I applied to The Southern University Law Center in large part because it is a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and has produced renowned attorneys nationwide. Being in the center of black and brown people striving to accomplish great things motivated me to graduate cum laude. Since successfully matriculating through law school, I have passed the Pennsylvania and Georgia Bar Exams.

Now, I am proud to serve the citizens of Georgia as a plaintiff’s personal injury attorney, fighting for their rights and ensuring that justice is served. My journey has not been easy, but it has been worth it. It is my hope that my story can inspire others, especially for those who come from humble beginnings, to believe in themselves and work hard to achieve their dreams.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been many struggles that I have faced and continue to endure along this journey as a black attorney. Black attorneys account for approximately 5% of all attorneys in the United States. One must become comfortable with being one of the few or being the only person of color in a courtroom. Additionally, owning a solo practice means competing with large firms and their advertising dollars. I am constantly engineering creative avenues to stand out as a boutique law office. The reality is that only a select few have the loyalty to retain black representation for their various legal issues. I am extremely grateful when one chooses RLG to represent them.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Rogers Law Group?
The Rogers Law Group represents Georgia citizens for injuries they have sustained due to no fault of their own. We will graciously represent you for injuries suffered in car accidents, 18-wheeler accidents, wrongful death, and slip and falls. RLG is paid by a contingency fee pay structure. Simply put, we DO NOT get paid unless we win. Please understand, if you are injured due to the negligence of another, you DESERVE to have your injuries treated and you DESERVE to be made whole. Never let anyone deter you from seeking representation for your injuries.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Create a goal, develop a plan, and pursue it relentlessly.

Pray. Manifest. Believe. Patience is imperative.

When your dreams are ideas that you have yet never witnessed achieved and you lack the resources available to lean on, then seek out mentorship and establish a network with people who have already accomplished those dreams. You can achieve more with a dedicated support system.
