Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Kim
Hi Eric, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a chemical engineering student turned corporate data analyst turned rogue digital video marketer. That’s basically it, so you can flip to the next page!
But if you’re curious about the gaps… I was a north Atlanta suburban kid who was good at math and went to Georgia Tech to study engineering since I didn’t know what else to do. It’s there that I began to cultivate everything EXCEPT my engineering skills, and the entrepreneurial seeds were planted through various clubs and “extra-curriculars” which allowed my initiative taking instincts to blossom.
Ended up not taking an engineering degree and instead went into business analytics for CarMax.
I promise it’s related to how I make TikToks for people in 2025.
It’s in this corporate data analytics role that I learned numbers. I was always good at math… but was I good at analyzing? I wasn’t, but this role forced me to learn how to think with air-tight logic. Although I had this entrepreneurial itch, I flourished in my role at CarMax, being placed in more senior roles and becoming a thought leader in major business development at this Fortune 500 company.
When COVID hit, my “itch” became stronger, I quit my job and went with nothing but a gut feeling that “I can do social media better than these people.”
I had no prior video experience. Didn’t know my way around a DSLR, and certainly didn’t know how to light a subject. But I knew how to think.
I knew that a real estate agent who was looking to acquire clients isn’t going to get it done by making mediocre videos that got little engagement, and I knew that it was important to have a hyper focused strategy to make that realtor’s efforts worthwhile. I knew that if they made YouTube videos about Atlanta, not talking too much about specific homes, but about the city itself and the neighborhoods that comprise Atlanta, people who are moving to Atlanta would see those videos and associate that friendly face in the video to someone that could one day help them buy their house. I knew that those searching on YouTube would be people who probably have some sort of interest in moving to Atlanta, which is a high intent audience as far as potential home buyers!
Sure enough, this client had his first $50k income month from clients that came from YouTube! (Of course, it took several months of free weekly videos I produced for him to try to prove myself.) This was the ultimate validation.
Over the years, I went from “shot-on-iPhone” quality with my basic recording skills to hiring talented videographers to assist with productions for all sorts of clients. I’ve helped drive results like that realtor’s first $50k month, or several 2M… 3M… 4M view videos, clients getting noticed at ice cream shops, strangers becoming clients and patients, revenue tripling in a year, setting record low lead costs with advertisements, and producing that feeling of satisfaction for my clients.
What sets me apart in this industry is my analytical mind, which makes video marketing look extremely pragmatic and to-the-point. My question is always… “how does this make my client money?” We are experts in our clients’ industries, and if not we go above and beyond to deeply understand what is important to our clients.
The biggest key to our success, however, is understanding what makes our clients tick. No matter how “analytical” our process is, we fully understand that authenticity sells, so it is critical to deeply understand our clients, and engineer a solution for how to make a viewer feel what I feel after sitting down with my clients for an hour drinking coffee. What is the essence of this person? We answer that video, and bottle it up into impactful video content.
That’s what my company Zator Media does.
We serve all service based business owners in Atlanta.
If you have good character, and you have a well established business, we can help you.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some of the biggest challenges were in the fact that I always had to depend on people along the way. I was not an editor, so I had to learn how to edit, then I had to learn how to work with editors, and find the right processes, software, and people who were going to help me create the leverage that I needed to free myself up to do what I do best.
Another was financial struggles! I never wanted to put my clients in a position where their money was at risk of not producing an amazing result for them, so I always compromised my own dollar if I was still figuring things out. I took heavy losses in the beginning, but I never lost belief that I was going to become a big player in my industry in coming years.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Zator Media is a social media video marketing company that specializes in working with service based businesses.
Industries we have worked with are legal, medical, real estate, financial, consulting, private equity, coaching, and fitness.
What sets us apart is our ability to be analytical in our creative process. We know that it’s just a game of iteration, and the more iterations we have in our creative process, the closer we will be to a strategy that will produce outsized gains for our clients.
We are currently in a growth stage, so any Atlanta based service business that has at least $1,000,000 in annual revenue may be eligible for a free video production. Why? We know that these are the businesses we are best equipped to serve, and we also know that if we do great work for people, it will come back to us at some point even if it’s a lot of upfront time, resources, and energy. We are looking to grow and want to network, so here’s the big shiny offer that we have going on at the time of this writing (March 2025)!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Losing track of time playing my Pokemon game my extremely cool Purple GameBoy Color.
