Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Valentine.
Hi Erika, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started in the hair industry as a child with my grandmother who worked in Hollywood and Los Angeles and inspired me to pick up the brush and cut things on anyone. I could get my hands on professionally. It’s been about 16 years. I started as a make up artist and quickly got into French hairdressing
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everything worth having comes with challenges and struggles—especially in the hair industry, where the average career spans only about three years before many switch paths. Building a 16-year career is something to be incredibly proud of. Creating and maintaining a loyal clientele is no small feat, and staying the course in such a fast-moving industry is both demanding and rewarding. Serving as a mentor and educator has kept me motivated, inspired, and excited for what the future holds.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the owner of a one-year-young French boutique hair salon built on customization and a highly personalized approach to hairdressing. With experience teaching across the country, I recently refreshed my certification in French balayage and cutting at the prestigious Dessange Academy in Paris. The salon embodies laid-back luxury, offering an intimate setting that fosters deep connection and truly personalized hair artistry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve been very lucky to have set myself up with incredible mentors that are world renowned, and have a wonderfully fierce loyal clientele with more than just services but deep friendships
