Today we’d like to introduce you to Gigi Ganta.
Hi Gigi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a registered nurse and my neighbor is creates art. Her name is Marsy. I needed a creative outlet as so much empathy, love and energy goes into the care for patients but following a corporate medical career, there are protocols and not much room to create. I wanted to give something genuine and pure, to do something to still serve but to think outside the box- that is where Deseo was born. Deseo means “desire” in Spanish. Our motto is “What fo you deseo, we can create it.” Marsy and I both lived in the West End across from a farm and wanted to bring spice to regular events for people who could not always afford them. We want to cater to anyone with any budget so we can make everyone feel celebrated. Marsy went to art school and was the first woman making sets for movies in the Dominican. She grew up with a few resources getting a full scholarship to art school. We value a person not based on their monetary value but truly through their being. With me being a nurse, I felt the same way as Marsy. Those were the beginnings of Deseo.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road as I work 5 days a week as a nurse and have had long Covid. Working in the heat doing weddings or events, would cause me to get very dehydrated or sick. In the process of wanting to make people happy, we decreased our prices but we barely made even the first year. Marsy was unsure if she wanted to stay because the Atlanta market was very different from the Dominican Republic where she was already established. She focused initially on art galleries and reality show sets but the Atlanta film industry took a hit. Marsy’s husband also had an autoimmune disease where she could not help out much as she had to be there for him. I had an ectopic pregnancy and it took a bigger toll on my health. We were trying to expand but we had to take several breaks. It was at that time, I started to get retired women I knew to find their creative passion and help us.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Deseo?
We are Deseo Decor. We specialize in event rentals, florals, workshops, art therapy, event decorating, and so much more. There are plenty of event decor companies but we want to work with people of all budgets to give them options to celebrate life. Life can seem black and white. We want to bring the color, the flavor, the passion, and bring your desires in. Whatever you want we can create it with a reasonable ask. We want our readers to know that we listen, we empathize, we are your biggest cheerleaders, and we want to make those life moments magical in the smallest way such as sending flowers just because or helping with a large scale wedding. We just want to bring a smile and help someone feel special.
What’s next?
We are currently working on a website and also looking into helping women who are retired or seniors find their passion through decor. We also want to bring multiple vendors together such as individuals who want to create a symphony of specialized skills at an event. This can be a healing day for women or workshops for children interested in expressing themselves in art. The world is our oyster and we are just getting started.
