Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Sirico.
Hi Greg, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu back in 2006/2007 in New York City. Trained for over a decade under Marcelo Garcia and then moved to Atlanta in 2017. I received my Black Belt in 2021, a few years after opening up Odyssey Jiu-Jitsu. Today we have over 250 members and more than 100 classes a month, bolstering the largest Jiu-Jitsu program in the city of Atlanta.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. I had plenty of injuries along the way and some surgeries which is why I teach my current students and athletes how to train properly and take care of their body. Also, COVID didn’t help since our business is predicated upon physical interaction.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Odyssey Jiu-Jitsu is a martial arts academy located in West Mid-Town that serves both adults and children. We have a robust system offering both Gi and NoGi training for beginners and well-seasoned students. We have programs for older students (Executive Jiu-Jitsu), Athletes, and everything else in between. What sets Odyssey apart by far is the CULTURE. Everyone at our academy is truly invested in building each other up to become better versions of ourselves. Most people start Jiu-Jitsu for self-defense, fitness, and athletic accolades, however as time passes most students stay for something bigger and more impactful. They learn how to deal with pressure in life, how to manage their emotions, how to use failure as a motivator, to be 1% better each day, and ultimately use Jiu-Jitsu as the catalyst for growth in their personal and professional lives. Jiu-Jitsu is more than just a martial art; it’s a way of life.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The food. Coming from New York, I was not sure what to expect, but I love the food here. I’ve found some of the best Korean BBQ ever, outstanding Mexican, really solid Pizza, and much more. The one thing that does get me a little angry is the traffic though, but I am getting used to it.
