Community Highlights: Meet Hannah Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Thompson.

Hi Hannah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I attended Miller Grove High School where I participated in softball and track and field. This is where my love for fitness really grew. When 2020 spring came my senior year, COVID happened. I had to stop playing sports and find something to do that I really loved. So I went to Fitness. I started back working out 8 months after COVID shut down schools. At first, it was just something for me to do to get back in shape and clear my mind, but as I started doing it more and more, I wanted to expand it to something more. So I got to the body goal I wanted to get to first, and then I started my business, UNAFRAID. I started making workout videos and training a few people here and there. Months went on and right before I left Home to go to FAMU my content was getting noticed more and more. To this day, it’s still growing, and with me being at my school, I was able to become a group trainer at Crunch Fitness, and I also started a group called FitSix. FitSix is just African American HBCU students that love fitness and are trying to inspire the aspired in their fitness journey. This group also allows each of us to work together to make our personal brands better and try to inform and keep health and fitness alive at our HBCU and our community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has had many ups and downs. With trying to grow my platform as a fitness influencer, I had a time when I slipped with my weight. I had to really take time to do research on a lot of things dealing with not only fitness but also social media. I had to also learn to have patience cause it doesn’t just come overnight you have to do the work and wait your turn because I believe God’s time is always the best time. Once I started getting that down I really understood that you have to be yourself. When I first started, I wanted to look like other influencers make content like them because I saw where they were in views, likes, and more. But I had to realize I have to be me cause that is what people in this fitness world like someone who is transparent and truthful about who they are and the journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of UNAFRAID. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
UNAFRAID (UNAFRAID TO BE FIT) is a small black-owned fitness business. UNAFRAID is made to help everyone of all ages and genders be unafraid to get to their body goal. With fitness comes a lot of doubt, giving up, and no motivation to start. So I want to help people not only start their fitness journey strong but also help them stay consistent and learn as they continue on to their journey. Right now I only do one on one training and group training, but I have upcoming items for people that don’t live where I train. I will also have upcoming events like panel discussions, fitness events and more. As my business grows I want to build my own online store where you can get everything you need fitness-wise all on one website.

How do you think about happiness?
Fitness honestly makes me happy. I just have grown a passion and love for it. I don’t think of working out as something I have to do. I look at it as something I want to do that not only makes me better all around but makes me happy and stress-free. Another thing that makes me happy is helping other people. I always see myself trying to make everyone around me better than what they are now.
