Today we’d like to introduce you to J. Renee Jones.
Hi J. Renee, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always knew that I was going to be an entrepreneur, and my interest was heightened at the age of 12 when my oldest brother bought me a book about entrepreneurship. From there, a fire was lit, and I knew that no matter what happened, in the end, I was going to end up in entrepreneurship. Initially, I was in the beauty and hair industry and started my clothing store, Boutique J Renee, while I was still doing hair. Before getting to this place, I dabbled in several different things along the way from baking cakes during the holidays to selling cell phone cases in college. I’ve always been a hustler by nature and think it’s very important to begin with the end in mind. God gave me the vision for my store when I was 16, and from the time of me having the initial idea to it now becoming a multi-million dollar company, I’ve done so many things from working jobs I didn’t want to work, and doing hustles I didn’t enjoy, but I was doing all of these things and taking these steps to get to my end goal. I think that’s the most important thing…no matter what your dream or vision is and how long it takes, always keep it in front of you.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. I don’t think any successful entrepreneur or someone who’s experienced success has had a smooth road. I’ve probably encountered every problem you can think of from lack of finances, help and staff, to technical issues such as my website being deleted, to my Instagram account being hacked and causing me to lose all of my social media accounts, to slow business seasons- you name it, I’ve experienced it. But I can honestly say that I’m at a point where even though I don’t enjoy challenges, they are much easier to navigate when you stop acting surprised by them. They are going to come, don’t waste time crying about it…focus on the solution.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about All Things J Renee, Inc?
I own an online women’s clothing store and have been in business for almost 11 years. I am also an author and speaker that has been in the entrepreneurial training space for 10 plus years. I have a passion for teaching and seeing growth and transformation in visionaries and other creative entrepreneurs.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
At the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, all of my social media accounts were hacked and I lost access to both my business and personal accounts. This time taught me the importance of having multiple streams of revenue and not solely relying on one product or idea to sustain your business. It also taught me that I can make it through anything.
