Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack & Alyssa Wagner.
Hi Jack & Alyssa , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We both stepped into our twenties engaged, a little unsure of our direction, and having each stepped away from college after a few years. Jack was working at Hobby Lobby and I was serving in ministry, but we both felt a quiet pull toward the creative world. Jack had been shooting photo casually and video here and there, yet neither of us had fully taken the leap to pursue it.
Then 2020 happened.
The world paused, our jobs were suddenly on hold, and for the first time it felt like we had nothing to lose. So we took the risk. That year, we officially started Film & Fable as wedding videographers.
As we were planning our own wedding, we kept feeling the same thing: there was a gap in the wedding video space. So much of it felt cookie cutter and predictable, often just a slow motion extension of what photographers were already doing. We wanted something different. We set out to create films that felt alive and intentional. Upbeat storytelling. Creative direction. Thoughtful, true-to-life color grading that honored all skin tones and all kinds of people. Work that felt artful and authentic.
Within two months of launching, we had 17 weddings booked for that fall. Jack left his job soon after, and by the end of the year, I did too. What began as a leap of faith quickly became a full life built around storytelling. We’ve since traveled all over the country filming love stories, growing our business alongside our growing family, now with two babies and another on the way.
Starting Film & Fable is still the best leap of faith we’ve ever taken.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Probably our biggest struggle has been learning how to build a business without losing the heart of why we built it in the first place. For us, Film & Fable exists to support our family, not the other way around. In the early years especially, it was easy to let work take every open space. Weddings are weekends, editing fills the weekdays, and when you’re passionate about what you do, the lines can blur quickly.
Over time, we’ve had to be really intentional about protecting our home life while still pursuing excellence in our work. We’ve also chosen to be transparent about what life actually looks like behind the scenes, traveling with kids, editing during nap times, building a business in the in between moments. We hope that honesty encourages other creatives who want both a meaningful family life and a successful business.
Because the truth is, your life doesn’t end when you have a family. If anything, it deepens your why.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We’re a wedding videography company focused on bringing fresh creativity and real storytelling into the wedding film world. We’re known for upbeat, cinematic films that feel personal and true to each couple rather than cookie cutter. Our approach blends documentary moments with thoughtful direction and intentional color work so every story feels alive.
We offer wedding films, Super 8 coverage, and a limited number of photo collections in Atlanta and beyond. Brand wise, we’re most proud of how we’ve continued to grow in depth, with no two wedding films being alike. We continue to grow in passion each year while building a business that reflects our family values and love for what we do.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
We didn’t grow up in especially entrepreneurial families, but the drive was always there in both of us. Our best friends, Marcus and Bianca of Rare Love Stories, were the ones who really called it out and encouraged us to take the risk and start Film & Fable. Their belief in us gave us the push we needed in those early days.
One of the greatest gifts in this journey has been having that kind of “iron sharpens iron” friendship. We’ve grown alongside each other, cheered each other on, and stayed inspired by one another’s work and life. Running this business has been even more meaningful because we’ve gotten to do it in step with friends who feel like family.
