Today we’d like to introduce you to Ja’nae Dunston.
Hi Ja’nae, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2015, while pregnant with my daughter, I struggled with painful eczema flare-ups and extremely dry, irritated skin. I searched everywhere for a product that felt safe, clean, and effective, especially during pregnancy, but I couldn’t find anything I truly trusted. I felt frustrated, discouraged, and honestly defeated. So I decided to create what I couldn’t find.
I spent late nights researching nourishing oils and healing butters, testing formulas, and learning how to blend ingredients that would truly soothe and restore the skin. What started as a personal solution soon became our Signature Whipped Body Butter and eventually, Three.Ten Skincare.
We create clean, intentional skincare for people struggling with dry, sensitive, and eczema-prone skin. Everything we make is rooted in care, purpose, and real experience. We don’t just sell products, we offer relief, confidence, and reassurance.
What I’m most proud of is the community we’ve built. Hearing customers share how our products helped heal their skin and restore their confidence never gets old. Those stories are the reason I keep going.
Three.Ten is more than skincare. It’s proof that sometimes your greatest struggle becomes your greatest purpose.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I was first started my skincare brand while pregnant with my daughter. I was struggling with severe eczema flare-ups and extremely dry, irritated skin, and I couldn’t find products in stores that I trusted to use during pregnancy. That frustration could have easily turned into discouragement, but instead, it pushed me to start researching ingredients, learning formulation, and creating my own solutions at home.
At the time, I was balancing pregnancy, work, and life, while teaching myself an entirely new skill. There were plenty of late nights, failed batches, and moments of doubt where I questioned if I was capable or if this would ever turn into something bigger. But I kept going because I knew I wasn’t just doing this for myself — I was creating something that could help other women who were struggling just like I was.
That experience taught me perseverance, patience, and faith in my vision. It showed me that even in uncomfortable and uncertain seasons, purpose can be born. Today, every message from a customer who feels confident in their skin again reminds me that pushing through those difficult moments was worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Three.Ten?
My journey into the skincare industry started from a very personal place. I struggled with my own skin for years and found that many products on the market either didn’t work for me or were filled with ingredients that didn’t truly support long-term skin health. That experience sparked a deep curiosity about skincare – how ingredients work, how skin functions, and how to create products that actually help people feel confident in their skin.
What began as personal research and experimentation gradually evolved into a true passion and eventually a business. I started learning everything I could about formulation, ingredients, and skin health, determined to create products that were both effective and thoughtfully made. Over time, that passion grew into my skincare brand, where my goal is to provide products that help people achieve healthy, balanced, glowing skin without overcomplicating their routines.
Through my brand, I focus on creating skincare products that are designed to support the skin barrier, improve overall skin health, and address common concerns like dryness, uneven texture, and dullness. I believe skincare should be both results-driven and approachable. My goal is to help people build routines that actually work for their skin rather than chasing trends or using overly harsh products.
One of the biggest problems I aim to solve for my clients is the overwhelm that often comes with skincare. There are so many products, trends, and conflicting pieces of advice online that many people don’t know where to start. I focus on simplifying skincare – helping people understand their skin, choose the right products, and build routines that support long-term results.
What sets my brand apart is the intention behind everything I create. Every product is developed with a clear purpose, and I put a lot of care into ingredient selection, formulation, and the overall experience of using the product. I’m passionate about transparency and education, so I also try to share knowledge about skincare so my customers feel empowered to make informed choices about what they put on their skin.
One of the things I’m most proud of is turning something that started as a personal challenge into a brand that helps others feel more confident in their own skin. Seeing customers experience real improvements in their skin and hearing how the products have helped simplify their routines is incredibly rewarding.
More than anything, I want potential customers and followers to know that my brand is built on authenticity, care, and a genuine love for skincare. My goal isn’t just to sell products, it’s to create solutions that support healthy skin and to build a community of people who feel informed, confident, and supported in their skincare journeys.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was the oldest of four siblings, so naturally I took on a lot of responsibility pretty early on. That experience shaped me in a lot of ways and helped me become independent and driven. Personality-wise, I’d say I was naturally more introverted, but depending on the situation I could also be pretty outgoing. I’ve always been someone who observes first and speaks later.
Even at a young age, I felt like I wanted more out of life. I never really let my circumstances define what I believed was possible for me. I’ve always had a mindset of pushing myself and striving for better, so in many ways you could say I was a bit of an overachiever.
I also genuinely loved school. Learning has always excited me, and I took my education very seriously. I was the type of person who really enjoyed gaining knowledge and understanding how things worked, which is something that still carries into the work I do today.
