Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Wilson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
What initially started off as a hobby turned into a small business. Family and friends I once decorated for encouraged me to expand my services to the community. I have always planned extravagant birthday parties, provided incredible party themes and creative ideas, but only considered it to be something I did during my downtime as a quick creative release. It was not until 2018 when I decided to decorate for my sister’s 30th birthday, that drove me to really consider everyone’s advice to start working for myself as a part-time decorator.
On January 4, 2020, I decided to move to Brooklyn, New York. I had no idea by March of 2020 the world would never look the same again. I did not know I would not be able to get hired for a new job as a paralegal or legal secretary. I found myself jobless, with a depleting savings account. Stress and worry began to consume me, but God showed me what I already had in my hands. I had a decorating business! I had to pivot. I am an advocate of my Alma Mater Clark Atlanta University’s motto, “find a way or make one!”
Therefore, I made a conscious decision to temporarily move back to Georgia in April and become a full-time entrepreneur. I immediately drafted up a business plan, uploaded photos of my previous work to social media and began acquiring clients. As of today, Jazmine Wilson Decor, LLC. is a successful traveling event styling, graphic design and rental company. We service all of Georgia and Brooklyn, New York.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Unfortunately, the road has not always been smooth. During the first few months of me operating as a full-time decorator, I took on a client who asked me to decorate her wedding. At the end of the wedding, she decided to not pay me in full. As a new entrepreneur, I was broken. My mother and I had just gotten out of a car accident weeks before and this event discouraged me. I had quit decorating for almost a year after the event. It took a lot of prayer and motivation to get me out of the mind space of feeling defeated.
As a result, to turn my bad experience into something good, I decided to really focus on creating and developing my non-profit organization that will be geared towards low-income brides in the state of Georgia. Future brides will be able to apply and acquire my services. Brides who qualify will receive an extremely discounted rate for either the decor for their wedding or one free wedding event.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Jazmine Wilson Decor, LLC. is a full-service event styling and planning firm. We specialize in event design, planning, home interior decor, balloon designs, custom decorations for all events and so much more. I provide interior styling services and event rentals for both commercial and private properties.
What sets J.W.D. apart from other event styling companies is the full J.W.D Experience. For each client’s experience with J.W.D, it’s my goal to always lead with kindness and for clients to feel like family. There is a quote I live by, which states, “kindness is the fabric that takes out the friction of life” – Unknown. So much more can be done in life when kindness is a part of our daily mix. Therefore, my kindness and compassion foster a bond that I have created with my clients; it is truly like none other. By the end of the experience, we feel like besties.
Every day is not glamorous, but it’s worth every smile I get when the work of art is complete! I truly want my clients to enjoy their overall experience and take pride in the final look. J.W.D also does a ton of charity work for small businesses and people in the community which includes discounted rates for events, free rentals, and so much more. We are involved in community events in the city of Forest Park, GA and have partnered with a Non-Profit organization called Bless God’s Children Ministry, INC founded by the CEO, Rev. Eleyda Griffith.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I have always had a passion for people and all things glamour! I am an innovator and trendsetter. Extremely detailed oriented when it comes to my elaborate centerpieces, custom balloons designs and more. My favorite motto is “No Shortcuts! My clients deserve the best!”
