Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Looney.
Hi Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
JLS Designs organically grew into a business in 2000. Yes, I am celebrating my 22 years in business! I started out decorating my own home as my family grew. As friends and neighbors came over, they repeatedly asked who did my home? Of course, I can answer it was me! My business began.
A little bit about me, I grew up in Texas and went to Texas Tech University studying Fashion Design. I have always loved dressing things with a strong interest colors, patterns and textures. After college, I moved in TN and began my career in the public service uniform industry working with the product development department for government agencies and national accounts. When I left the industry to care for my boys, I already had a viable design and window covering business, so the transition was seamless. Working for myself also allowed me to be a Mom and care for my boys on my own schedule.
The bread and butter of my business is window treatments. Everything I do is custom! It’s ordered to fit each window and installed by a professional window treatment installer. Every step of the project is handled by me from beginning to end!
I do love doing color consults, being a consultant on remodels of bathrooms and kitchens and also purchasing anything that goes into your home; furniture, lighting, wallpaper, bedding, rugs, etc….
I truly love what I do and the people that I meet along the way. I work in some of the most beautiful homes in the area – I love that my office changes daily!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest challenge at this time is relocating my thriving business from the Middle Tennessee area to the greater Atlanta area. I started the process in February of 2020 but COVID threw a monkey wrench in those plans. Covid delayed my opportunity to network and start making contacts in this area.
We’ve been impressed with JLS Designs, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have worked really hard to create the JLS Designs brand and have it be consistent through all social media platforms. I have a great team that works with me to perfect it all. Since the brand is me personally, I work hard to be sure that it is reflective of me and still maintains my voice and it is targeted to my perfect client.
When working with a client, it is my job to find out their style, even if they say they don’t have one! They do, they just don’t know it yet. I ask questions about their life any upcoming life changes, obstacles or challenges to determine how they want to live even if they aren’t presently living that way. It is my job to help increase their efficiency in their home and make their house THEIR HOME. It’s with these questions and dialogue that we can determine the scope and project details.

I also have another side of my business where I partner with other design professionals, home stagers, organizers, home builders and real estate agents where I come in an assist their clients with window related projects. Having been in the business for 22 years, I have extensive knowledge and background in an industry that has a steep learning curve. I come in and assist their clients in their projects. In essence, I become a little genie in their pocket to assist their clients and allow them to concentrate on the bigger tasks and I manage that small part for them.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I enjoy skydiving with my husband. He is a natural risk-taker and I am not, so we balance each other out! We do love adventure and the outdoors and are open to try new things!
I recently got married on 12/31/21. We proudly have seven grown kids between us ranging in ages from 19-35 with one grandson and another one on the way!
