Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Coleman.
Hi Jeremy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started out with my dad’s entry-level camera. I always had an interest in taking photos using point-and-shoot cameras, phones, iPods, and anything that had a camera that I could get my hands on. I never really saw myself actually being where I am today and I thank God he gave me the gift to be able to produce what I have because I truly never knew it would get to this point. I can definitely say that the biggest turning point in my career was when I did free photoshoots for the class of 2020 due to COVID and that BOOMED my business. S/O to all the guys who helped me out during the process but I have to give the biggest shoutout to Benjamin Reid and Carlos Stephens because without them the story would have never made the news and gotten the buzz that it did. Once that happened, my name got out and its been up ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a long, HARD tough five years. I struggle heavily with depression and self-doubt so that’s always been a major issue that has caused me to always have these random hardships I would go through and hiatuses that held me back from growing, especially early on. I would take 4-6mo off at a time from shooting to come back and get on it and then go through something else and it was tough to overcome. Then in 2019, I lost my closest friend to suicide and that one really hit me. Still hurts to this day but he was my biggest supporter so I fight through the pain because I know he’s watching down on me and rooting me on.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My photography business captures just about anything that is needed within my skillset that can be taken care of. I do a lot of general work but would like to get more into more creative photography projects since that’s stepping outside of my box. But I’m most known for Graduation photos since I did the 2020 COVID Grad photo project and now I shoot up close to 75-100 grads a year. What sets me apart is just the way my photos look. It is hard to describe but I have a style of how I shoot that is unmatched and can’t be replicated and that’s what keeps people coming to me. I also have a big love for capturing maternity photos as well because it’s something about helping mothers, New and continuing capture this newfound love they have for their child before they bring them into the world that gives me a feeling that really just captures that raw, true emotion.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
That I can’t truly say. Photography is ALWAYS changing so quickly but I will just do my best to follow trends and set myself apart within that trend too.
