Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Battaglia.
Hi Jesse, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my fascination with creating things at an early age. Growing up on a farm in Dahlonega, I had what seemed like unlimited resources to learn and be creative. From building treehouses and forts with my 7 brothers, to more mundane tasks like repairing barns and fences we where definitely taught to work with our hands from a very early age. This carried into my first job in construction framing cabins in Boone, NC, where I learned the basics of home construction building processes. I worked in different trades in my early 20’s as a plumber, utility foreman, and tile setter. While I enjoyed the process of creating something of beauty and being physically involved in each of these trades, I was never content only performing one piece of the build.
In 2014 I got an offer to become a partner in a small remodel contracting firm based out of Marietta with some partners that I had worked for over the years as a tile setter. This was the beginning of my Design+Build path. Taking ownership of a renovation or build from start to finish was exciting and challenging for me. As the company grew over the years, I pushed us into larger and more complex projects. I went to school and got my residential and commercial building licenses, which allowed the business to be passed on to me when the other partners retired in 2019. My passion for the design side of residential construction, and the industry disconnect between builders and architects, pushed me into getting some architectural schooling and design training. This blossomed into our current Design+Build firm North Georgia Design Build. We design and create spaces that are inspired and constructed to the highest standards that the budget will allow. Our goal is to give the most value out of our client’s dollar, and even push their perception of what could be possible for their home. Recently we have been getting into the custom home building realm as well. Designing a home from the ground up allows our creativity to really spread its wings. I still enjoy creating things with my hands, just like on the farm, but now I get to do it on a grander scale!
I have been married for 19 years and have 4 children. We live in Ball Ground where we love the small town feel and beautiful countryside.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth would not be an adjective I would use to describe the road to where I am. But I was not cut out for a smooth road. I enjoy challenges, hard work, problem solving and building relationships. These things are all difficult, but rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The goal of our firm is to serve our clients by being a trustworthy company that delivers a high quality product. This starts with building a team of trustworthy people who love their careers. From the design team to the superintendents, we have built a team that cares for our client and their home from the bottom of their heart. The general contracting industry has poor reputation of not being reliable or honest. We want to change that perception with a new approach to the relationship. Our entire process is built on what would serve our client the best. The Design Team focuses on what our clients desires are and what would function best for them, while the build team takes great care to treat every home with care and respect. We are management heavy to ensure these values are executed well on every job. While we are not the cheapest firm in town, we do believe that we offer the most value in our product and the experience.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Focus on creating a product that people need and want, never compromise on that product.
