Community Highlights: Meet Joey Organa of Creature Cosmetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Organa.

Hi Joey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My boyfriend and I started the company last year under the name GoreGoul FX, which is my MUA name. We didn’t set out to start building a serious brand out of it, but more so as a way to make some side cash to support myself during the pandemic due to my lack of work (I’m a sfx mua for film and tv). We also did not expect the insane amount of support that we would go on to receive on our first drop, and it was such a humbling feeling to see all of our supporters so eager to snatch up our initial inventory.

One of our biggest sellers was our original Syringe Lip Gloss, which is exactly what the name suggests. People ate that up (literally, we’ve gotten messages about people eating the lip gloss). We finally realized that we might be onto something with this. Later in the year, around Halloween time, we tested out a small bit of rebranding by completely wiping our original website and rebuilding from scratch to portray a more vintage Halloween style, as well as introducing all-new eyeshadow palettes to our vegan/cruelty-free product lineup, and everyone LOVED it. This is the point where we really began talking about taking this more seriously, and a couple months (and two more palettes) later, Creature Cosmetics was born.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacles that we have faced would be my (mysterious, as no doctor in the last three years has been able to diagnose) health problems and other brands attempting to steal the concept and formula of our Syringe Gloss.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Creature Cosmetics?
Creature Cosmetics provides vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics and self-care products designed for lovers of horror and the macabre. We stop at nothing to provide the most quality and interesting products to our amazing customers. I think what sets us apart from the rest is our incredible attention to detail and our mix of psychobilly and classic horror influences.

How do you think about happiness?
Halloween has been the biggest influence in my life since I can remember. There’s just something about throwing on a costume and putting on some new flesh that makes me glow with excitement. It’s the reason I’m so obsessed with horror and the reason I choose to do what I do for a living.
