Today we’d like to introduce you to Juice Karter.
Hi Juice, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
So, my story started as a kid born and raised in Rock Hill, South Carolina, in 1994. Growing up in a small town where we only saw expensive cars, tall buildings, and the finer things on television made me extremely ambitious to know what it would be like to have those. I grew up influenced by the era of “business moguls” like Diddy, Jay Z, 50 Cent, Master P and Birdman, which influenced me to learn more about the music business.
I started producing music in 2009 during my 9th-grade year and started learning how to mix and master vocals on my own without the need of an engineer. Learning how convenient that was, I started applying that towards the way I moved in business – learning how to cut out the middle man and become the source. In October of 2011, I started my own brand called #TeamRise, which later transitioned into my company, Rise Up Music Group.
In August of 2013, I signed my first record deal with M. Republik Music Group out of West Hollywood, California. That’s where I started having single after single charting on radio and generating a buzz across the globe in 2014, which led to me collaborating with fashion brands outside of the U.S. The first opportunity was with Pink City clothing out of Toronto, Canada, where we collaborated on several shirts with music I was producing at the time. A few months later, I had a sneaker endorsement deal with Afrotoonz out of Paramaribo, Suriname in South America, which was featured at their country’s fashion week runway show the week before they contacted my team.
In 2015, I felt like we outgrew our situation with M. Republik Music Group, which led us to being where we are now. Our mission is to bring new assets to the culture and to contribute timeless art for decades to come. However, my personal mission is to become the biggest plug and businessman in the Music Industry and to own a successful black-owned major label full of artists in all genres. The path that I chose is something that’s beyond rare in my generation because everyone wants to be the next Lil’ Wayne, but not the next L.A Reid. So, that brings a ton of confidence in what I provide for the culture of my generation as the go to “industry plug.” I know I’m more than likely the only guy in his 20s working everyday to supersede music business moguls like Russell Simmons, Lyor Cohen, Sylvia Rhone and more.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not smooth at all [laughs]. The same year I started my #TeamRise movement in 12th grade of 2012, I was homeless after being in the foster care system. I was sleeping on the streets during thunderstorms, living house to house, in and out of hotels and more while trying to focus on getting my high school diploma. Fortunately, I ended up getting my diploma but the struggle didn’t stop there. I didn’t have my mother, father or anyone by my side, so often times I found myself homeless time and time again. However, one thing I always made sure to do everyday – continue to chase my dreams to become a music business mogul.
I kept staying focused, doing my research, putting in work, networking, building up the label and the team in the midst of my struggles, so I started to build a habit of get IT done by any means no matter what is going on in life. That built my character and mental strength/awareness up so much, which put me in a position to where I would always progress and become better at the end of everyday. I stayed consistent and then got that call from M. Republik Music Group in late 2013 and it was up from there. Haven’t looked back since!
As you know, we’re big fans of Rise Up Music Group. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Rise Up Music Group, we an independent music entertainment company based in Atlanta and Miami. We specialize in entertainment, social media marketing, online promotion, business development, public relations, radio, touring, management, publishing collection, sync licensing, music administration, legal consulting, financial development and ANYTHING music/entertainment business-related.
Personally, JuiceKarter is known as the music industry connect that uplifts everyone he works with. Everything I touch goes gold [laughs]. Right now, I’m currently working with celebrity model Rebellious Chantele, female artist Oomy Oomy and others. What sets me apart from other industry connects is that I’m young and hip to the culture of NOW, and I do genuine business with the people I work with now. Also, the people I work with actually have a career doing numbers and constantly elevating on a seven day basis. Nothing is declining where I do business, and it’s been like that for a long time.
What I’m most proud of is the amount of wealth in knowledge that I’ve collected and applied over the years to put myself and others in position to live their dreams to its fullest extent without the need of virtual fame. The “clout” and followers are just the icing on the cake. The way my knowledge collaborates with my experience allows Rise Up Music Group to strategically operate in the most smooth way. In addition, the amount of knowledge I share with my artists, models, and business partners literally changes lives for the better, which is the best part for me.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes… I learned that you must know how to network virtually if you plan on surviving this post-pandemic world. Thankfully, I wasn’t too effected by COVID outside of not being able to tour because we’ve been networking and marketing on the Internet since Myspace days [laughs].
