Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Gilchrist.
Hi Julia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began growing love and passion for the healthcare field about 12 years ago when I started as a Personal Care Assistant. As a PC assistant, I started at entry level, without certification! I absolutely loved caring for the elderly and since then I climbed up the ladder to continue my nursing career and building generational wealth, while doing what I love. I worked in several different positions such as Personal Care Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Activities Coordinator, Nutrition Assistant, then became a Licensed Practical Nurse!
I have witnessed during the height of COVID, how many things changed in our healthcare field. I recognize the essential workers did not have the access to basic necessities we so desperately needed. To keep them feeling luxurious, comfortable and worthy. That’s when JuliasEssentials was created to fill that void.
JuliasEssentials provides top notch equipment, stylish uniforms and crocs. The brand mission is to fill the needs our essential works in our field to create a way to uplift healthcare workers’ self esteem and encourage self care during a very stressful and critical time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I learned by experience that there is education behind each field, including entrepreneurship. I struggled vendor frauds, in the beginning, I did not do the research required to ensure the validity of my previous supplier and lost a lot of money. Also that it is not as easy as it looks on the outside. There’s no security in business, you take risk, it takes lots of courage and faith required as well. There have been times I did not have any money but refused to quit, despite my financial struggles at the time. Resilience is a must in business!
