Today we’d like to introduce you to Karyn Powell
Hi Karyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an Atlanta native, wife, and mother of five. I am an Information Technology Technical Team Manager with one of the largest global IT Corporations. I am also the founder of Gemini June Boutique. Gemini June Boutique is an online women’s clothing and accessories boutique that was developed out of my immense love of fashion starting from my childhood. From early on, I developed a connection to fashion from my parents who loved to travel to find the best hidden gems around the world. We took many trips to LA to get the newest styles first! I was mesmerized and knew the fashion industry was meant for me!
When I met my husband in college, my focus shifted to family life and I entered the Information Technology world. My IT career has spanned over 18 years, and I have been able to successfully work my way up in corporate America, where I have held various positions from Systems Administrator to Technical Account Team Manager at major corporations. During the pandemic in 2020, I realized that I was looking for more in my life than corporate America could provide. As our last two children were graduating from high school, I decided it was time to bring my vision to life. I began to see that women like me were underrepresented in the fashion industry, which did not embrace the unique differences in our body styles. I wanted to start helping women love the authentic natural beauty they have. I want them to look and feel confident everyday as I do without trying to sacrifice their true identity. So, in June 2021, Gemini June was born!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road for professional minority women is never smooth and easy. Whether it has been working my way up through corporate America or becoming an entrepreneur, I have been faced with a number of challenges. The biggest challenge has been trying to raise a family along with finding a way to be seen and given opportunities that I saw others get. Through trial and error, I have figured out ways to make me stand out and make sure I get in front of the decision makers. I believe I have been fortunate to have positive women role models throughout my career that have helped to keep me motivated and continue to push me to be successful. Having others that are willing to believe in you and go above and beyond makes a difference. When trying to gain the knowledge and tools to set yourself apart from the competition, it is important to be well-grounded in self-awareness. With the growth of social media, we are now able to see fewer obstacles being put in front of us. There are now so many motiving minority women-based communities expanding and willing to help build networks that were not previously available. And I’m happy to benefit from and contribute to them all.

Gemini June Boutique has been a lifelong dream. As I have grown as a woman, so has my vision for Gemini June. As women constantly transition within their lives, we want Gemini June to go along for the ride. Gemini June Boutique represents all facets of a woman, all facets of me. We want to give women the tools to help display her inner self with her unique sense of style. We believe your mood, your confidence, and your sophistication should always be present inside and out. At Gemini June Boutique, we bring stylish purposely curated pieces to women with a discerning eye for fashion. We specialize in limited edition items that always make a statement. Let us help you dress for a purpose and feel confidence in everything you do.
Any big plans?
Gemini June Boutique is transitioning and growing everyday. We are working to carve out a unique niche for ourselves in the online fashion industry. We are excited to go on what we call a self-exploration of carefree fashion. Our customers have spoken and would like for us to offer more of our specialty hats and transitional vacation wear. This year, we will be bringing more pieces that have better fluidity, flow, and flexibility like our fabulous Kimonos. We are also excited to soon bring on board a travel/fashion blog that will feature some of our customer’s styles and travels around the world representing Gemini June. We are hoping you will join us on this fabulous journey!
